Gift dilemma

Gift dilemma

Luke got this Little Tikes climb on set from my BIL & SIL for his bday. The problem is that I can tell he wont get very much use out it. It says ages 1-3 but he is already too advanced for this. He looks so bored with the swing and the slide is tiny. My SIL was so excited about the 'surprise gift coming for Luke' that I feel bad telling her. DH put it together and it's been in the yard for 2 days I dont even know how we can return it anyway but I will try. I just dont know how to tell my SIL. This toy really is a waste of $120.00 IMO.

$120! Can you imagine!? What a racket!!

I hope you're able to return it and get Luke something he can use. I'm sure your SIL & BIL won't be offended. I know I'd much rather get my niece/nephews something that they'd enjoy.

Good luck!

I agree that it is a waste--My BIL and SIL have one from our first niece and even my nephew who is 1 doesn't use it--- I didn't realize it was that expensive though--Huge waste of $$$$
Good luck in returning it and being honest with her is the best bet

Re: Gift dilemma

Funny you said that Liz, Last year when I was shopping for my niece's bday, I wanted to get something similar (if not the same thing) and noticed that the slide was so low to the ground and the swing didnt look like it would swing too far. Dont you wish I were your SIL
I did get something similar but bigger or 'more advanced' The slide is higher and it has no swing. The play on it day in and day out. and theyre ages 1-4.

Im sure she'll appreciate that you dont want her money wasted. get something else instead and tell her he played with 'this' at his friends house and LOVEDD IT ! and ask if she would mind. hope it goes smoothly!

My cousin's kid has the exact same play set and I agree, the age range is not accurate. However, I witnessed several little boys ages 2-6 playing on this set and they were in heaven - BUT - that is b/c they were climbing on the TOP OF IT!!

I truly hope your SIL and BIL are understanding....I wouldn't want my money wasted on something the kid won't ever use.

Re: Gift dilemma

As an Aunt I guess I would be upset that I was so excited about the gift and the age was really accurate on it. I know it is a lot of money and as a mom it might seem like a waste but I guess the truth is my feelings would be a bit hurt that my gift was returned. If anything, I would rather have the mom allow me to chose something else rather than return it to the store and pick something else themselves. Again, this is a my perspective as an Aunt, not a Mom.

Re: Gift dilemma

I spoke to my SIL and all is fine. She understands (as DH says she is the queen of returning gifts) but I still hate to have a conversation like that, when someone picks a gift, I have never said I dont like it or want to return it. But in this situation it was better to be honest (and appreciative) and not waste their money. She said she saw it on line only not in person. Actually, she wanted to get Luke a house, but my other SIL talked her into this.

Re: Gift dilemma

well I'm glad that she was understanding...you could also mention on another occasion that Luke was too big for it...that he was uncomfortable in the seat...etc...
