Gift Etiquette Question...

Gift Etiquette Question...

I received a check from a distant relative of my FH (I've never even met her before) who can't come to our wedding.

What do I do?

1. Do I cash the check now and send her a thank you right away?

2. Do I send her a thank you right away but don't cash the check until we're officially married?

3. Do I wait until we're married to cash the check and then send her a thank you card when I send out my thank-you's to everyone else?

OR

4. Same as # 3, except I cash the check now?

HELP! Thanks ladies, I know I can count on you!!

in my opinion, i would cash the check now( just because i would lose it) and write her a thank you now. whether you cash the check now or later, i think you should write her a thank you right away so she knows you got it atleast.

I would say #1. You definatelly want to thank her rigth away! Also, I personally hate it when i write out a check and the money is still on the account like 2 months later. JMO.

I would cash it now - she wouldn't have sent it for you not to cash it. She obviously wants you to have it. I would send a thank you note now and you might want to send one later too depending on how she responds now to your thank you note - so that she could have a picture of you too from the wedding.

I cashed mine before the wedding and sent them thankyou cards with the others...after the wedding.

1. Cash the check now. There is nothing more annoying than trying to balance your check book when people leave checks outstanding.

2. Write her a thank you note now.

3. IF you are doing photo thank yous- send her one after the wedding so she can have one & say she was missed.

I would cash the check and pre write the thankyou to go out right after the wedding...or send her one now and say that you are sorry that she is not able to make it but her thoughtfuness was very much welsomed.. or somehting like that

I would cash it now, and send a thank you now. When you're sending your photo thank you cards to everyone else, maybe you could send her a 'thinking of you' kind of card and include the picture and say something like, we wish you could have made it, it was a beautiful day...we thought you might like a picture blah blah blah....

Send Thank You, then cash. I hate it when people hold onto my checks for a while. Most people like their checks cashed soon so they can balance their books.

I would cash now and send Thank you-
She'll know you got it when it's cashed

I received checks already also. I cashed them and sent them a thank you now. I see it as less to do later.

You send a TY note now and deposit the check, unless the wedding is in a week or so and you want to put all the funds in at the same time.
You can always send a photo after the wedding if you want to.

i would cash the check now, cause you only have 6 months from the date on it to cash it, and you dont want to lose it. Send her a thank you, and when you get married you can send them the picture thank you too

I would cash it now, send her a thank you note now and then when you get your thank you cards with the pics I would send her one of those so she gets to see what you both looked like on your wedding day.
