gift for a very non-traditional wedding reception?

gift for a very non-traditional wedding reception?

Here's a random situation for you:

Friends of ours are getting married in the Dominican Republic in July. They're having a pig roast in Ohio in the groom's hometown in August. Since we can't go to the DR the week after our honeymoon, we're going to Ohio.

What kind of gift should we bring to a pig roast reception in Ohio?!?

cash

I honestly think the gift shouldn't change depending on the venue. Give the same amount you would have given if it was in a fancy RH. Your gift should depend on the closeness of your relationship and your finances at the time - it's really not about covering the plate or any of that. That's my opinion anyhow, and actually what the etiquette books say nowadays in case that matters to you. Hope it helps!

well in ohio they might give gifts instead of cash, NY is one of the few places that we do this. You can give cash if you want to stick to NY tradition, im sure they won't mind. If not then get them something off their registry which im going to guess is what most of their guests are going to do.

cash or something off the registry if they have one.

I brought a NY cash gift to a wedding in New Mexico and my friend (the bride) was so shocked at the amount and admitted later that I as a single guest gave more than many people who brought their whole family. Check the registry.
