Gift for your parents????????

Gift for your parents????????

Um.....

Are you ladies getting a gift for your PARENTS???

Im a little confused by this as I never even THOUGHT to get them gifts. I was going to get them something cool from Rome or Greece (My HM) but a wedding gift???

Do you all see it as necessary?

Help me out with this, and if you are or are not doing it.

Thanks, as always!

My parents hate when I buy them gifts -- ever. Mother's day, father's day, birthdays, etc it doesn't matter --- They get so mad! I want to get them something to thank them for hosting my wedding, but it needs to be small or they will be so upset.

I think FH and I are going to pay for our parent's albums from the photographer.

maybe just a little token for each, but we are not going overboard.

Our parents are hosting our wedding so we want to get them something nice as parent gifts. I think I will take our e-pics and make a flush mount album for both of our parents.

I don't think it is necessary to get parent gifts if you and FH are the one's paying for the wedding. But if they are contributing I think a little something is nice as a way of saying thank you.

I've been toying with the idea of taking my mom and FMIL for a spa day, and having FH take my father and FFIL for a golf outing.

I don't have the extra money for a really fancy gift and my mother HATES knick-knacks so I am just counting her album that I am getting from the photographer and the edited dvd from the videographer as a gift. I am counting these as FH's parent gift as well.

We didn't have a ton of money for big gifts to our parents, so what we did was pay for their parent album. We also had personalized hankies made for each parent from http://newtraditionshankies.com/. They come in a beautiful box with a sweet poem for each person, and the hankie itself is embroidered. They really loved the hankies and it was a very meaningful keepsake for them.

Here's a pic of a hankie from the website:

Here's a pic of my mom opening her hankie and reading her poem.

Yes I got one for them both.

My parents told me to save the money and put it into my house, but I felt like I wanted to do something for them.

I got both of them Paul McCartney tickets. I got my mom a mini MOB brag book and my dad a pair of baseball cufflinks.

Probably going to get them tickets to a Broadway show

For FIL's they are separated and not contributing as much, so something smaller for each of them..

My parents are the same way. Plus in our tradition/culture/families etc I dont think its typically done.. The first time I heard of it was on LI weddings actually... not that I had that much vast experience or knowledge before hand =)

That being said now I feel like I should get them something even though they would not expect a gift at all. If we do get them a gift it will be one of a sentimental nature-- i.e. an engraved frame, the mother daughter lenox figurine (mom's big on figurines) , something of that nature.

I also want to pay for my mom's day of make up and maybe for the parent albums.

Either way we will get both of our parents a really nice 8x10 frame with our wedding photo in it for xmas. (assuming our pics are done by then!)

I have a large family where I had to also get for my 2 aunts and 1 uncle (he's like my dad walking me down the aisle) in addition to my mom,,

I got Mom a diamond and topaz necklance

Aunt B: A pink saphire heart necklace

Aunt M: A gold Locket

Uncle R: Cuff links engraved with his intials..

FH got His dad the same cuff links and his mom a gold cross.

All for them to wear on the wedding day.

It's pretty typical and expected in my culture (and I'm glad to do it!). We haven't made final decisions but possibly an hdtv for the fil's or a lladro figuring for my parents.

My parents would hate it if i spent too much on them..they know we have no money. I was thinking of just getting something little...maybe a gift certificate to one of their favorite restaurants or my dad -a gift cert to a coffee place and my mom a nails/spa gift.

We did not get our parents gifts for our wedding.. we paid for the wedding ourselves mostly. Our mothers helped a little but also know that ALL our money went into the wedding & that we also accrued some debt.
I am making my mother and my mother-in-law albums & getting them each a frame for our wedding picture & i think that is even more than they expect.

My parents are paying for a bulk of the wedding so I want to get them something really nice, I'm thinking of sending them away for a few days.

As for my future in-laws, we will still get them something small as a token of appreciation.
