FH and I are having a slight disagreement about a gift table. He says that on LI people don't have them and our room at Fox hollow- WGP may not have room for a gift table. But, My family is not from LI and and either are my parents and home friends. I know from my sisters wedding that many people brought wrapped presents to the wedding, not checks. So I think it will be necessary to have a gift table. Has anyone had a gift table? Does anyone think it would be a problem to get one in the reception room? Im assuming the hall will be able to provide a table for us- can't see where that would be a problem.
Also, Im afraid that LI people will think this is super tacky, but I don't want everyone else to not have somewhere to place the gift. And, we are also going to have to have a card box as well for the LI people. I feel like this all seems so greedy, but its not like poeple show up empty handed. But on a greedy note, I do wish present people would just have them mailed to us.

Re: Gift table
I agree that it's not the norm to have a gift table at LI weddings. However, I don't see why there would be an issue of having one for your wedding.
If you're having a card box, usually that gets put on a table near where you and your hubby sit. So why not make that into the gift table. Also good because I've heard horror stories of people 'walking away' with gifts (i.e., stealing) so it's good to have them near you where they're very visible.

Re: Gift table
Ya we don't want that to happen! :) hehe. I think we will hopefully have room for a smaller table and it won't get in the way- hopefully! I think that was FH's main concern.

Re: Gift table
You should definitley be able to get a smaller table for gifts. As someone who lived out of state for 10 years, I am used to seeing them, and if I saw one at a wedding on long island, I would not think it was tacky. I would just assume either the bride or the groom or some of their guests are not from long island.
don't worry about it, better to have the table and not have your guests trying to squeeze their gifts in at their tables all night.

Re: Gift table
We Long Islanders don't find it super tacky at all, don't worry! I went to a wedding in Boston about 2 years ago and there was a mountain of gifts and then a huge pile of envelopes from all the LI'ers. Its interesting how traditions vary. I think you will def be able to put up a reasonably sized table at the Fox Hollow.

Re: Gift table
I've been to weddings at Fox Hollow and they will definitely find room for a little table, probably next to the cake table or behind the sweetheart table. Don't sweat it. People will bring gifts for sure and you don't want them onthe floor.

Re: Gift table
I've been to a wedding at fox hollow & there was a table set up right by the sweatheart table full of gifts. I don;t think it's tacky at all.

Re: Gift table
If you do not want a gift table you could maybe ask the Business manager at you hall to get the gifts from the guests as they come in for the cocktail hour and put them in the bridal suite.

Re: Gift table
It's not the norm to have a gift table at a LI wedding, but ask your RH to set it up if you want one. I'd make it in conjunction with the card box, though...
Someone will always think something is tacky. For example, I know it's fairly common, but a lot of people think card boxes are tacky.
You can't please everyone.

Re: Gift table
We had a gift table, it was set up for our card box but, gifts were placed on it as well. The gifts came from both our LI and our OOT guests.

Re: Gift table
I dont think anybody would think it is tacky...Talk to your RH and trust me they will find somewhere to put a gift table.
Personally I might not do a cardbox and here is the reason why: At a wedding my friend went to, somebody stole the WHOLE THING!!!!!!!!! plus so many times people have stolen a few envelopes.
For my e-party, i bought something else to put them in so people wouldn't know and it was always with a family member, whenever they got up, i went right over and made sure it was taken care of
