I saw cash too... they can use the money to help pay for the wedding. I would say $100-$150 if you aren't very close with them
Oh it's at a hall maybe I would give a little more but remember it's an engagement gift not a wedding gift...
Thats the thing - I cant give them too much - what would I give as a wedding gift?!?
exactly, maybe idk maybe I am cheap and have cheap friends but I did NOT get more than $200 from my friends and that was from my super close friends. In all honestly I wouldn't want them to give me more than that. I'd feel bad
We have two engagement parties back to back and our wedding is three months away and Im paying for our entire wedding solo - soooo I cant afford shelling out so much for just an e-party but I dont want to come off as cheap. For the wedding we'd most likely give like $350-400 .. these arent close friends of ours ..
So a bottle of something wrapped isnt good to bring to a hall and put on a gift table?
How about box-o-wine?
youre giving 350-400 for not close friends?
Heres the thing ---
This is a guy who FH grew up with and has known for years they're just not close the way we are with other people in the group. The other couple who we LOVE are also having an e-party and for their wedding we would definitely give $350-400 .. and I wouldnt want them talking since those two couples are close and anyone feel slighted. So - we have to be careful.
And yes - so tacky if they started comparing gifts but you never know ..

Re: $$ Gift
Wow you guys are REALLY generous. For my engagement party (about 125 people) gifts ranged from JUST a bottle of wine, to $100 gift off the registry, to $350 cash from CLOSE FAMILY. I think our friends gave us around $150-$200 depending on how close they were. And I thought that was REALLY generous. From being on this site I think the people on here are WAY more generous than is typical... not that that's a bad thing.

Now I'm starting to rethink all the wedding gifts!!
The more I read the less they are getting
Ive only been to weddings where I was SUPER close with the people .. I mean for my twin sisters wedding I gave her $2500.00 (but she paid for the whole thing herself and I was her MOH) and I wanted to help her. Too bad I hate her husband now
Other people like FSIL we gave $500 ... so yeah - maybe I'll scale it back .. esp. with ours just 3 months away and we're paying for everything ourselves.
I think we will give $150 for the e-party and $300 for the wedding ..

dammit... i was just about to ask if you considered me a 'not so close' friend lmao..
but honestly... do what you want to do... if you can afford it then go for it... i dont want to take away their gift because i think its odd... but i also have no money so its a like a huge amount more than i can afford lol

Re: $$ Gift
This is my rule of thumb for not so close friends: eparty $100-$150, wedding $300 min depending on the RH. I always try to cover my plate.
For my eparty at a vineyard, most gifts from family friends were about $100 or gift of that amount. CLOSE family $300-$500.

I agree....I would give a gift definitely instead of cash because you can get them something real nice for under $100

Re: $$ Gift
if it was at a restaurant i would say $100 would be fine, but i might bump it up to $200 since its at a hall...

Re: $$ Gift
The most we got was $100 from a couple and I thought that was very generous. I don't really think it's necessary to give huge gifts for an engagement party.

Me, too! I got lots of $50 gifts...and from family $100. A few people gave me $300...but those were my parents friends. None of my friends gave more than $100.
Personally, I think $100 is a nice gift for an engagement party. And it really shouldnt matter where it is held. If they want a mini-wedding for the engagement party-- it's their choice.

The people I know are even stingier, lol! The most cash I got was $50 and most expensive thing off the registry was 60! Your ladies are definitely very nice

For an eparty, I think $100 would be good. For a wedding depending on how close you are, at least $300.

Re: $$ Gift
i got $50 from most couples/people and the most i got was $150 from a friend.
$200 is way to much in my opinion. it's an e-party...just another excuse for gifts
