So, my FFIL and FMIL told FH that we might as well save our money for the E-party b.c no one was going to give us anything b.c we are not supposed to receeve gifts. Is this true??? ***??? I thought this was EXTREMELY insensitive and rude b.c technically it should be THEM paying for the damn E-Party NOT us. ugh.

Re: Gifts for E- party
idk where they're getting their information from. make sure they don't spread that around on the family we were asked to register by a lot of our guests, so we did, and we got an even split of registry gifts and cash gifts. we made more than enough from the envelopes to put down our RH deposit.

Re: Gifts for E- party
I've read a lot of articles saying it is not customary for guests to give gifts for an e-party and not to expect any. This is a tradition that I think is changing especially in our area. I've never been to an e-party where guests came without a gift.

That's just her opinion... how does she know? I dont think you should have any party with the intention of it being a money maker but I would definitely expect people to give gifts.

Re: Gifts for E- party
We didn't register because we didn't want gifts and everyone gave us cash. We just dont have the means for storage yet.

Re: Gifts for E- party
At our engagement party, we were told to register by both families and we ended up with almost even between gifts and money. But my friend didn't register cause she was hoping to use that money towards her wedding and she got mostly money, just a few gifts. So it's up to you. But as far as making money the party, it really depends, I wouldn't think of it like that, you probably will make even. You should look at it as more of a celebration of your engagement and I think that alone is worth spending the money. I mean you can have an engagement party that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and still be able to celebrate, so I say have your party and enjoy being engaged.

Re: Gifts for E- party
At our E-party everyone on my side and our friends gave us gifts. But FH's side that was invited didn't give us anything, not even a card!! Well his parents gave us money, and one brother gave a gift, and two other couples on that side gave a gift as well. But everyone else including one of his brothers did not give us a gift! We were shocked esp. because we paid for everything!

Re: Gifts for E- party
Our eparty is March 29th and I didn't register because we don't need anything right now, and if I know my family no one will come empty handed.

Re: Gifts for E- party
We are not throwing an E-party to make a profit. lol. Although that would be nice. We just want our familys to come together and 'kinda' get to know each other. His parents had a terrble divorce and havent seen each in like years. Anyway, I dont mind if other guests dont bring gifts although its is rude) But i was so mad that his parents told him not to even bother having an e party and save the money. ***? that was so messed up.
p.s. I dont want to register either. cash please ! LOL

Re: Gifts for E- party
We definitely gave a gift at my best friend's engagement party! So did almost everyone. A handful of people didn't give gifts but she ended up with a makeshift gift table and a lot of envelopes.
Tell them to stop spreading that around!

Re: Gifts for E- party
i have been to MANNNNYYY engagement parties and we never went empty handed. We always give around $100-150 dollars. Unfortunately our e-party is costing us around 6k, so.. if we get any kind of money, its not going towards any wedding, it's going to the cost of the party!!!! I don't expect anything, it's something we wanna do for ourselves, but...money would help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have never been to an engagment party. I am going to my first one this month (A friend from HS). I hate to say this but, $100-$150 seems like a lot to me. I am trying to save for my wedding....
