Gifts for People not in bridal party?

Is it tradition or etiquette to give the readers gifts? If so, should they be the same as the gifts given to the bridal party or what? How about the parents? Are you supposed to give them gifts? I know it sounds bad - but if so, why? and what? Thanks!

Gifts for People not in bridal party-Lee

When my friend got married she gave the readers gifts. (A girl a braclet, and A guy a watch) I think this is what i'm going to do for my wedding also. I feel that the readers should be acknowledged. Its not easy for people to get up in front of a bunch of people and read!

Lee, as I've said before at the point I'm in 3 months away from the wedding I have no room for added expenses. I will not be buying the readers gifts. I've been to tons of weddings where they were not given gifts.

Gifts for People not in bridal party?

We are getting our readers bouttonaires and coursages, and will give a small gift - $10-$20 - our ushers and bridesmaids will be getting something more since they did a lot more work with the planning and all.

We gave our readers and some others a nice bottle of Long Island wine (since most were from out of state)...it wasn't that expensive, and it added nicely to their 'trip'.
