Gifts from guests who rsvp'ed no?

Original post by Sarni80

Totally a question just out of curiousity - I know that etiquette-wise, no one even needs to give gifts at a wedding, much less a guest that RSVPs no. But just out of curiousity, how many of your non-attending guests have given gifts? Very few of ours have. Which again, I don't mind - just wondering if that's the norm.

so far we got a few checks from NYers who couldn't come, and a few registry gifts from OOTers who couldnt come. Nothing so far from our friends who couldnt come - the gifts were from family/friends of our parents.

it's possible there are more on the way, or that they will come closer to the wedding.

i usually send a gift with a no RSVP, but not if i barely know the person, which happens to me very often. how do they get my address??? LOL!! if i saw them in the street i would have no idea who they were.
