if the parents are helping to pay for the wedding (or paying in full), do they still give a gift? or is the gift the wedding itself?
i don't really care if i get a gift from them (it's not a greed thing), i just want to know what's expected.
TIA

Re: gifts question
i dont think this is a standard yes or no... you'd have to find out specifically from them... im sure some see it as the gift itself... others might not

Re: gifts question
My parents bought my gown as their gift AND are paying for the brunch and helping to pay for some of the vendors. I'm definitely not expecting anything else from them.

Re: gifts question
I would assume that the 'gift' is the money they gave towards the wedding.

Re: gifts question
i think it depends on the people.
my parents gave us a check in the winter to pay for stuff. became like 1/10th of my budget.
then they came to our e-party and gave us the same amount again... of which we deposited into what has become our 'house-savings' account.
i'd be suprised if they didn't give us something at the actual wedding - but thats how my parents are.
but if people are paying for the whole wedding - i certainly wouldn't expect a gift of any sort on the day of.
expect nothing.
if they give you something... props to them and YAY for you.

i would say paying for the wedding (or paying for part of it) is their gift itself...

haha, it doesn't really matter to me if they give a gift or not .... i only REQUIRE () a gift from the guests who we were forced to invite (FIL's friends, FSIL's parents and grandparents, etc)
ETA: i know my mom will be giving us something, she already said she would (no idea what though). I guess i asked this to see if my mom is doing 'the norm' or not

Re: gifts question
both of our sets of parents contributed towards the wedding and they both also gave us gifts for the wedding too.

Re: gifts question
My parents paid for the wedding and my IL's paid for the RD and HM. None of them gave us anything on top of that - and I didn't expect them to. My IL's did give us a card though which I thought was nice......my parents didn't even give us a card

Re: gifts question
my parents are the divorced kind who like to try to one-up each other, so my dad and FILs are splitting the wedding (about 60/40 with my dad paying more), dad is also paying for the majority of the HM, mom gave us a huge chuck of money which we deposited mostly into our house-savings, she also bought us all our dishes, and dad is doing the RD
FILs threw our e-party, and like i said are contributing to the wedding
so yeah. not expecting anyyyy more than we have already got from them all which has been VERYYYYYYYYYY generous (if not even a bit over the top and manipulative but why look a gift-horse in the mouth, no?)

Re: gifts question
Most parents still give a gift if they have it. Sometimes they tend to only give partial gift before the wedding so the gift is totally yours afterwards.
