We received our first gift today () from FH's boss who has just rsvp'd as a no. We know we shouldn't open the gift until after we're married (though part of me wants to rip into it now!), but I don't know if we should write out a thank you note now or wait until after the wedding when we open all the other gifts and send out the other thank you notes.
Thoughts? I'm totally clueless.

Re: Gift/thank you note ettiquette question
hmmm that's a tough question! I don't know the answer! We opened our engagement gifts right away (even before our e-party) and then sent thank yous out the same day.
I would assume even if ettiquette says not to open them until after the wedding, your guests wouldn't mind you opening it if you send a prompt thank you. by the time you wait for the wedding, honeymoon, and then start writing the rest of your thank yous it piles up and could take a long time.
IMO I'd say open it now and write the thank you -- it will lighten your load after the wedding and they will be happy with your prompt response.
I'm interested to hear what others have to say.

Ditto - open and say thanks!

Re: Gift/thank you note ettiquette question
We opened all gifts we received before the wedding and wrote thank you notes for them as soon as we could. Sending them as they came made life a heck of a lot easier for us after the wedding, and the giver gets acknowledgement right away. Everyone wins!

Re: Gift/thank you note ettiquette question
For the gifts we received prior to the wedding we sent a thank you note right away to acknowledge we rec'd it and then a picture thank you note with all the other thank you notes

Re: Gift/thank you note ettiquette question
I think that if he gave it to you now it's ok to open it now and right a thank you now. S/he'll just be concerned about getting a thank you, not when he gets it.

Re: Gift/thank you note ettiquette question
I agree with the other girls and I would send it now. That way he/she knows you recieved it and he gets the thank-you right away.
