So... I'm from Nassau county (about 15 min from Queens) and my finace is on the south shore of Nassau county. We are looking at booking Giorgio's for our summer 2011 wedding. My father feels that the venue is too far for our guests to travel. We'd be having a Sunday wedding (arrival at 11am and it would be over by 5:30). The commute would be about an hr. Do you think this is unfair for our guests?!
In addition, we went to the bridal showcase last night... we thought some of the food was EXCELLENT, however, some of it was just ok. Did anyone have a food tasting there and have a different experience.
I just want to make sure before I book the place - since my parents are giving me such a hard time on the location, i want to make sure everything is PERFECT.
Anything woguld be a huge help!!!
THANK YOU

Re: Giorgio's....
almost booked there...
had brunch there but wasn't impressed
did not have a tasting for the wedding though
the place is gorgeous and ive heard nothing but good things about the service and food
buttttt if you live 15 min from queens, the commute to giorgios will be well over an hour especialllllly on a sunday....there is only one way out to giorgios and there is a lot of traffic going in that direction in the summer-wineries, beaches, hamptons traffic on the lie going west on a sunday night in the summer is killlllller
a saturday, day may be better, this way ppl can stay the night out east if they want to.
i live in eastern suffolk and it takes me about 30 min to get to giorgios
that being said... if you love the place, people will travel no matter where it is. I doubt people close to you will say, its too far we're not going...and if anyone does, screw em! you will never be able to please everyone, all you have to do is please yourself!
plenty of people have vineyard weddings out east with ppl traveling from nyc/queens/brooklyn etc...

Re: Giorgio's....
I'm in nassau and i'm booked at giorgio's. Yes, it is far, but it's well worth it! It's absolutely beautiful and i too am told all the time how amazing that place is when i tell people where i'm getting married. I think a sunday afternoon is better than a friday there... the traffic going out there will be nuts, but your guests won't be in that since the traffic will be going in the opposite direction.
I agree loveydovey... your guests will come no matter where it is. think of all the destination weddings there are or ones that get married in the state where the FH's family is. you'll be okay no matter where you book! People will come b/c they want to spend your special day with you

Re: Giorgio's....
I just made a post about this maybe 2 weeks ago, lol. I'm from Nassau and so is my family, FH is from Suffolk and I was wondering the same exact thing.
It's out by Riverhead so it would probably take an hour for my family to get out there but I was thinking if we went with this RH my family would probably wind up staying in the hotel that we have blocked off for them and whoever else wants to stay.
As far as my Grandparent's, I'm sure they'll catch a ride with someone but my other guests....I guess they would have to suck it up =/
Last year FH and I went to a wedding at East Wind Caterers, he was in the wedding party so I drove with his parents but it was at least a good 45 min from where we live and it was a Thursday wedding and I didn't hear 1 person complain.

Re: Giorgio's....
Honestly, If you love it, dont worry about the distance. If people are concerned they can always get a hotel out there. As far as traffic, its not bad in that direction on sunday. The people are going west on sunday and its not 'traffic' because they dont all leave at the same time. I used to work in the hamptons so I know the traffic patterns. Friday evening going out there is bad. However, not on the LIE, which is what you take to Giorgio's. The traffic is on sunrise highway.
Ok and as for the food. I've eaten at Giorgio's many times. I went to a wedding there a few years ago, have had dinner there a few times (when the restaurant was open) and have gone to 2 showcases now. I was at the one on Thursday and I agree with you about the food. Some of it was great (pasta) and some of it was just ok (mashed potatoes). I think that is because at the showcase they are not on top of the food as much as they are at a wedding. For instance, the mashed potatoes got low and a little cold and they started running out of toppings. I think they just make a certain amount for the showcase. But at a wedding they are constantly replacing the trays and its definitely hot. I wouldnt worry about the food if I were you. The food there is amazing. And if you are concerned...ask to do a food tasting before you book.

Re: Giorgio's....
I'll second a lot of what has been said already. We just booked for a Sunday afternoon in May 2012. I think it'll take longer than an hour to get there from you -- it's at least 45 mins from where I live in Suffolk.
Yes, it's a bit far. We're having a ton of OOT people, and I figure that if they're coming all the way to LI, we should show them a pretty area :) The more local people (my family) can be glad that it's not in Ohio where FH is from! People can always stay in a hotel the night before.
Are you looking for other possible options? Or are you just looking for reassurance?

Re: Giorgio's....
Anyone have their wedding or been to a wedding at Giorgios at the end of April? I just booked April 28th 2012 there and am anxious to know what the weather is like out there that time of year and what the grounds look like :)

You seem like you have more concerns than just the distance. I'll tell you this much, no matter how many halls you look at, none of them will be 'perfect'. If you're not all that impressed with the food, and you question the distance and/or other things, keep looking for comparisons. You really should LLLOOOVe your RH.

I agree totally! You will find something you love. If its just the food that you are worrying about...then dont worry. The food at Giorgio's is amazing! But if the distance is really concerning you then keep looking around.

Re: Giorgio's....
The people that really want to be at your wedding...will be there no matter how far away it is. I have alot of OOT's and alot of Nassau guests coming and at the end of the day...the RH I chose wasn't about them, or how far they have to travel (sorry!! I know that sounds bad). I went with my gut and my gut said Giorgio's was the place. I was at the showcase the other night and have had my tasting...and personally, I LOVE their food. No reception has has perfect ANYTHING. People have different tastes, so I couldn't let a few so-so foods deter me. The best advice I can give it to do what YOU want to do. Chose a place that makes you happy when you walk in. Chose the place that you never want to leave. That should be your place. And while I HIGHLY recommend Giorgio's...you need to make the choice for YOU.

Re: Giorgio's....
I always wanted to get married at Giorgios, my senior prom was there and I loved it way back then! However, we have a lot of family coming from way into Nassau/Queens and it just seemed too far.

Re: Giorgio's....
I went to a wedding there back in December 2007 - it was nothing short of AMAZING!!! I'm sure they have only gotten better since then! The place is stunning, the cocktail hour was HUGE. I couldn't believe how much food there was, even once you got into the reception. I would've LOVED to book there, but it's too far for my FH and I since his family is from out of state.
You will not be disappointed!

Re: Giorgio's....
I went to a rehearsal dinner there and thought it was gorgeous.
one thing about 530pm wedding on a sunday if your wedding is in the summer is traffic going there and coming back.
Like everyone said who ever is going to come is going to come. I wouldn't not go to a wedding over that!!
If your not in LOVE with it though then wait and see!

Re: Giorgio's....
we had our wedding there last Oct. People are still telling me it was the best wedding they've ever been to and the best food they've ever eaten. They will take such good care of you and make sure your day is perfect. They are known for having the best food around. Don't worry about the distance, ppl will come no matter where it is.

Re: Giorgio's....
I'm getting married at Vineyards in Aquebogue. FH and I are the closes to it, his family is all out of state except his grandparents who are in Yonkers. My family is mostly in Nassau and Queens, but I don't think it will be an issue for them. People come out to the North Fork to go wine tasting all the time. They love it! If they are concerned about the distance, they should make a weekend out of it. Our wedding is a Friday and we plan on going wine tasting Saturday. We did a hotel block at the Hilton Garden Inn to encourage people to stay. Your family can make a weekend out of it too! If they get there Friday they can have all day Saturday to explore, then go to your wedding Sunday and drive home after. IME traffic does suck heading west on Sunday evening, but not until you get pretty far into Nassau, and it goes pretty late. Leaving early has no benefit.
