girls familiar w boston area

my cousing who lives in brighton just got engaged! YAY!

she has no idea where to even start looking at dresses, and is considering coming down here to look, but i feel like it will be too difficult for her to come down for fittings and such.

does anyone know of good vendors up in boston? i figured you girls know everything!

I live in Brighton, too! :D

Unfortunately, I did all my dress shopping on LI. But I have a few friends her who are engaged - I'll try and find out where they went.

I got my dress at Vows in Newton, 10 minutes from Boston. www.bridepower.com They literally have thousands of dresses. I got a Melissa Sweet there for $1500. See pictures & info in my review. They have everything from $499 gowns to Vera Wang samples. By appointment only.

There is also Designer Bridal Outlet in Wellesley, 3 miles from Vows on the same road. www.designerbridaloutlet.com. Very good but very few dresses unless you are a sample size. Also by appointment only.

There is also Yolanda's, about 20 minutes away. I didn't go there but I hear good things.

Depending on her budget, L'Elite on Newbury St is great as is Vera Wang on Newbury St (obviously) And Priscilla of Boston on Boylston St. PoB gowns starts at $3000.

Lastly, the ladies at Bride N Belle in Medford are really nice. They carry dresses in the $700-2000 range, like Watters & Watters, Paloma Blanca, etc.

I'm from the Worcester Area and I got mine in Jaffrey NH at Country Bridals. http://www.countrybridals.com/

They have a huge selection, great customer service, will order anything you want and the price was $500 less than most MA stores, plus no tax!

I second Vows. I have heard a lot of great things about them! I almost drove out there to go dress shopping, because most of my bridesmaids are out there since I used to live in Salem. I ended up getting my dress at Kleinfelds in the end.

Totally check them out!

I got my dress at Vows, also. Your friend might want to register for the mailing list so that she will be notified when new shipments come in. They have a very low key, low pressure environment, which I liked. Also, since all their gowns are samples, you don't have to wait months for them to come in. Go during the week if possible-Saturdays are busy.

If your friend is looking for a more boutique/upscale feel, she could try Allegria Bridal in Belmont.

I'm from Boston

My friend is from Brighton and she got her dress from Bridals by Valerie in Reading. She referred me to them and that's where I got my dress to. They are a family run business and great to deal with...Very personable. Walks in welcome

Another friend got her dress from Vows and rave about it.

Yet two other friends went to Creative Bridal in Braintree and they loved them too. I went for fitting and everyone seemed really nice.

Best of luck!

Hey - Cambridge chicky here.

I dontttttttt recommend Priscilla of Boston on Newbury. The saleswoman there (an older woman) implied that my BM (who was with me) was fat!

Former Fenway area bride...but I agree with Bonnie. The saleswoman started exchanging looks with another saleswoman as soon as I told her that I was more interested in the Watters line as opposed to the priscialla of boston/Melissa Sweet stuff.
