Is anyone NOT doing a receiving line or is it kind of inevitable that you have to end up doing one?!
My ceremony is 3:30PM and cocktail hour starts at 5:30PM, Reception at 6:30PM. I don't mind missing cocktail hour for pictures but it's going to take about 20-25 minutes to get to the Milleridge so I don't want to waste forever greeting everyone. I want to make sure we have enough time for pictures (At the Milleridge)..

I'm not doing a receiving line. My ceremony is at 4:00 and my cocktail hour starts at 7. My church and reception hall are close and we are taking pictures on the way but I don't want to be rushed taking pictures and I'm not going to cocktail hour but I don't want my bridal party to miss it.

I am doing one. I kinda feel like I have to. There will be people at the church who wont be at the reception and I want to be respectful and thank them for coming.

This. I feel like there isn't really a polite way to just skedaddle after the ceremony. I don't mind doing one at all, especially with so many hours in between, but I also feel like it's the right thing to do.

I really don't want to but like the other girls are saying some people wont be at the reception so I want to make time to greet them so I'll have to greet others too. I might just brush the others off with an 'I'll see you at the hall.'

This exactly. I know some of the older members of my family won't be able to attend the reception so I want to thank them after the ceremony. If there was a way to skip it, i'd love to but like the other ladies said, i dont know how to politely leave without the receiving line.

My cocktail hour starts at the same time and I moved my ceremony to 2:30 bc everyone scared me about having enough time. I just feel like even if u try to avoid it, it's gonna be hard to slip out of there without people stopping you.

I'm having a receiving line. I'm taking it as an opportunity to thank people for coming that I might not get around to talking to at the reception (ie: his family or either of our parents' friends) because I'm dancing or hanging out with friends and enjoying myself.

lol I know it stinks I feel the same way... but keep in mind that alot of people skip out on the church, so you won't have as many... My cousin got married in October, and her ceremony was about 30 mins, and the bridal party was off in the limo only 10 mins after that- My dad and I timed it because I was worried about how long it takes, but the receiving line went quickly and everyone blew the bubbles then left lol

My ceremony is at 11:00 ends at 11:30 and our cocktail hour starts at 12:15. We are doing a reveal before the ceremony to get all the important pictures out of the way. We are opting out of the recieving line to save us more time because we will have to take all of our extended family pictures from 11:30-12. I'm not worried about greeting everyone, I'm planning on having the Dj announce to meet the bride and the groom on the dance floor and greet everyone that way!

This has been my latest source of stress. I did not plan on doing a receiving line and did not factor it in the timetable (planned on greeting guest at venue). At a meeting with a vendor, FH and I were asked if we are having a receiving line and I said no while FH simultaneously said yes. My ceremony is at 3pm and reception is at 5pm. We are going to try to leave the church area by 4pm. I still feel we are going to be rushed with photos, but there isn't much I can do. I don't attend a lot of church ceremonies, but all have had a receiving line.

We are probably going to do a small one as time will be an issue, however we also want to thank the people who came to the ceremony too so we will find a way to make it work.
I think I might try and somehow tell my reception guests on our FB event page and at the bridal shower that we will see them at the reception and that the receiving line is for those that are only going to be at the ceremony. Of course we all know any women who are told of this before the day of, will clue in the men coming with them. Not sure if that's how I'm going to do it yet, but it's currently our best option.

How about when your ceremony is over you turn to your guests and make a little speech thanking them for coming etc and then when you are not by the doors they will figure it out. I guess you could mention not having the receiving line.
