I think it all depends on the attendant you get. Just like anything some are nicer than others. But it's def work a try!

When FI's parents went to Rome for their 35th they got upgraded to First Class for Free BOTH ways!

I totally agree!.....actually funny story...few months ago FH & I were flying back from CA...and I have like 200,000 miles, so I figured when we got to the gate I would ask if I can use my miles to be upgraded. So I went over and the attendant was soooooo nasty, whatever, I was willing to use my miles, I didn't ask for a FREE upgrade. So I go sit down and tell FH sorry we didnt' get it. Anyway, like 10 mins later, this man in his pilot uniform comes over and says 'your christine right?' and I was like 'yea, omg what did I do?' and the pilot said 'o nothing, that woman was just so nasty and there are plenty of first class seats available, so here are two free upgrades, save your miles for something better!'

I was floored, the pilot was soooo kind to do that!

Wow! I'd love to be lucky like that one day! I'm always too embarrased to ask about upgrades, so I make FH do it. Never seems to work though.

I'm hoping to sneak into someone's suitcase
