Re: Girls going to Europe for the HM!
US!!!
We're going backpacking! It's been a dream of ours FOREVER. Anyhoo, I've got tons of flight watch up but it's still too early right now to get the best ticket prices for September (when we plan to HM).
We're doing a couple countries and thus far the cheapest country to fly into is Dublin, Ireland. I've seen prices as low as ~$300 RT. But of course you have to be flexible with when you leave.
Which city/country are you planning on flying into? I have tons of newsletter I subscribe to, I can let you know when I see deals. And what month?

We are! Let's see - Flying into Paris, then from Paris to Florence. On the way back we are flying from Naples to Paris. So, in all, 4 flights - I think we are looking at $3K round-trip for both of us.

Re: Girls going to Europe for the HM!
I travel pretty often to Europe. The ticket prices vary so much each time.
Someone told me once if you book online to check the prices first thing in the morning bc that's when its cheapest and as the day goes up the price will go up. Also, if you book for the following year, wait till after the new year, b/c thats when a lot of airlines drop airfares.
eta: for spelling

the morning thing totally worked in my case, and stalking the prices every morning for like three months! lol. but seriously when I booked the tickets, i checked the price at 7am, booked and checked again just to see late afternoon and it was almost double for the same flight!

FH and I went to France and Italy this past September. We went direct from JFK -> Nice and then Pisa - > JFK all on Delta. Round trip, I think the tickets were around $680 each.

Re: Girls going to Europe for the HM!
I've heard of girls who wear some sort of 'newlywed' shirt or something and getting upgraded to first class for free due to nice flight attendants! Wouldn't that be schweeet!?

That would be amazing - the past dozen or so times I've been to Europe have been with work so I haven't flown economy in a looong time. It's easy to get used to business class, haha.

you should bring a copy of your marriage license....my friend had all these HM upgrades in her package at the hotel, and when they checked in they asked for proof...i guess they get people trying to upgrade alot so they wanted to see the marriage license!

We flew to Italy in September also and the tickets were $600.00 each. We are looking to book Italy in September next year too, but airfare is way too high now. We booked with a travel agent who 'held' tickets for us at a higher rate. We checked everyday, and when they went down, she was able to get us the reduced price. So if you are working with a travel agent, maybe they can do the same.

Re: Girls going to Europe for the HM!
We are going to Greece and Italy. We are flying Delta from NY to Athens, Olympic from Athens to Chania, Olympic from Chania to Calabria, Delta from Calabria to NY. Our travel agent was able to get everything for $3,600. We are going the last week of May and first week of June. Given what I was finding, its a great price

OK. Totally bringing a copy of our marriage license. And showing that everywhere! Hahaha.
Oh another tip for airfare. Chinatown!
My family typically get airfare from Chinatown travel agents when they go back to China. Saves them SO Much money because the agencies buy in bulk. You got nothing to lose but time!

Nope, I tried this, the woman was very nice and said they really dont do that any more. I also used the excuse that my DH is 6' 4' and would be comfortable.. that did work either! I guess what can you lose if you do it!

Re: Girls going to Europe for the HM!
I think it all depends on the attendant you get. Just like anything some are nicer than others. But it's def work a try!
When FI's parents went to Rome for their 35th they got upgraded to First Class for Free BOTH ways!
