Are the male guests wearing/renting tuxes? We're invited to a black tie wedding this summer...super formal, at the rainbow room. The bride told me if people don't own a tux, she didn't want them to have to rent them and they should just wear a black suit. FH is afraid he'll be the only person in a black suit and not a tux. Do you think he should he rent one?

My friend just recently went to a black tie wedding (at the St. Regis I think) and her husband ended up renting a tux even though they were told if you don't own one, just wear a black suit. He felt that it was better safe than sorry....it's totally up to your FH though.

I dont think he should rent one. A black suit will look very formal and nice, i really wouldnt worry about it. I thought about also putting black tie on my invitation but i didnt for the same reason as this bride, i didnt want to require people to go and rent/buy/wear a tux. A black suit is fine

We're not having a black tie wedding, but I've definitely heard of friends of ours going to black tie weddings and wearing black suits.
