The question was how many songs are played through the reception and such. Not how many you can dance to or etc.
I just hate rudeness. Sorry.
Maybe I'm just going overboard. It's possible. Im stressing at the office about rude people *shrug* You decide.
I know they're all competition but come on. What happened to common courtsies? Like 'Well I wouldn't go so far as to say that because..blah blah'.
Sheesh.

Re: girls looking for DJ's.. I just HAVE to say
and he's wrong too..the last wedding I was at lad at least 40 songs. the 68 quote was off too..so I would say they were both just giving opinions and both wrong, in either the advice or tone of response...
It happens, dont make such a big deal out of it.

I don't care.. My wedding's done
but if i were a bride coming in and looking for a DJ and I saw this. Tone is everything to me. I booked vendors based on the way they held themselves. I dont care if it's 68 songs or 12 or they both lied and it's only like 20 the point is how they (either) present thier 'sell'.
They're vendors. They sell stuff. They want business and they want our money.
I am not 'making a big deal' out of it.
I am merely pointing it out.

Re: girls looking for DJ's.. I just HAVE to say
i think they were both just giving their opinions. Ultimate Sounds just happens to have a 'sassy' tone - he probably thinks it makes him sound cool or more like a DJ to 'break it down' for everyone.
it's a business - everyone has their way of communicating, and these guys are in competition. If a bride wanted to book either one and thought they sounded rude, then they could choose not to use either.
I really don't see it as 'the rudest thing ever.'

I too think the reply from Ultimate Sounds was rude. It is totally OK to disagree, but his tone was a little out of control. He is probably just jealous of Michael because Michael is a better DJ

Re: girls looking for DJ's.. I just HAVE to say
I am sorry but I gotta disagree somewhat here.
Now granted... I am not an 'official vendor' on the boards... but I do know what I am doing when it comes to DJing a wedding.
Even though what Music by Michael said is somewhat 'true' if you want to give a 'technical answer'... its not a true to life 'realistic' answer.
Ultimate gave a very honest answer and what he said was very accurate. You are definitely NOT going to get 68 songs played at your 4 hour reception... unless you include the music for everything including the formalities.
In a 4 hour reception... when you subtract dinner and all the formalities... you will probably get 90 minutes to 2 hours worth of dancing.
Plus... the average length of a song is closer to 4 minutes IMO... not 3:30. So 4 minutes per song for two hours is about 30 songs.
Yeah the original poster was asking for the number of songs for four hours.
But I would have given the answer Ultimate gave... minus the 'lets get real here' comment. I would have said... yeah 4 minutes per song for four hours is about 65 songs.... HOWEVER if you want the number of 'dance' songs... its more like half that.
The OP was probably asking because she has to make up a playlist for the DJ. If thats the case... unless you are gonna give a playlist that included ALL the formalities.... you are better off giving the DJ 30 songs that you definitely want to hear cause you will have more of a chance of hearing those 30... than the 68 that Michael is saying.
Just my 'Bride' two cents.

haha
I personally think everyone needs to RELAX... this is sooo not even worth debating!!!!
She was just venting about the comment and everyone is getting all defensive and technical about it.
CHILL OUT DUDETTES!!!!
I think wedding planning has gone to all of our brains.

I think its the 'lets get real here' comment that set the tone for the post. The information provided was good but... the opening line immediately gives a negative feeling.

It was rude and unprofessional of Ultimate. He/She should of written a FM to respond to her question personally instead of airing it for all to see.

If this is the case on how it should be done... wasn't it Michael who broke this rule first?

DJPill, you are 100% correct as to why I probably asked...... I guess some vendors just read way to into questions!! That was a good laugh!!!
Next time I have a question about music, I'll FM DJPill if he doesn't mind!!!!

Re: girls looking for DJ's.. I just HAVE to say
Yeah no problem. I figured the only reason why somebody would ask that question is to know how many songs they should put on their playlist.
Feel free to FM me if you need an unbiased opinion.
I noticed that a few people as well as Xelindrya actually used Music by Michael as their DJ... so I can understand there is somewhat of a bias in knocking Ultimate. But thats ok.
Me personally... I am not using either one... so I couldn't care less what gets said.
Take my word and give the DJ about 20-30 of your favorite songs that you definitely want to hear. Let him surprise you with the rest.
4 hours total reception is not a long time... and believe me if I was given 30 songs to 'must play'... it wouldn't be easy to get all 30 in that short amount of time. .... especially if those 30 don't 'blend well' together.

DJ,
Yes, I used Music by Michael, but even YOU said you wouldnt have used that tone.
It wasn't the facts I was pointing out, it was the behavior.
You would have been smooth.heheh

Also, I liked that High Voltage Sounds stepped in as well. I didn’t use them because I wanted a solo DJ and not a selection. Plus I liked the package Michael offered, but I find nothing wrong with High Voltage. How’s that for fair and unbiased?

I do think that the response, while informative, was kind of rude. Not the rudest thing I have ever seen, but it was just a little out of taste.
