Where did you get your mortgage from?? And how much was the interest? And how much did you put down for a down payment? FH and I are starting to seriously think about buying a house and we just want to make sure everything will go ok. Thanks!!!

We used Blue Star Mortgage in Syosset, the guys name is Tom Berandino. We locked in at 5.875. Down payment was just under 20%. He trys to keep the mortgage to 417,000 because anything larger is a jumbo loan. Let me know if you need any more help, we are scheduled to close next month

we went with Pulte mortgage, but they are also our contractor/builder...
our interest rate was locked in at 5.87% and we only had to put down 5% which came to about 20k

I used M&T a few years ago and the process was quick, even our lawyer commented on how quick they work and usually it takes longer. I don't know what rates you can get from them now since this was years ago but you can always try...good luck

I didn't use a broker. I went to Chase directly.

I give a thumbs up to M&T Bank too (although I do not know how they are doing now ). I worked with M&T for a client about 2 years ago - I really liked their documents and process - very to the point and their documents are much more basic than what I see from other lenders.

We used Wells Fargo. Our interest rate was 5.5% and everyone was so nice to deal with.

I work in the mortgage industry..I'm a banking paralegal.
I'd say your best bet right now would be Wells Fargo (if you're looking for a traditional mortgage lender). However, it's always best to check out the mortgage dept at the bank where you do your personal banking.
whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM COUNTRYWIDE.

Re: Girls that bought houses...need help
We have countrywide....no problems as of yet, i know Bank of America is buying them out....we pay our bill online, an they send a new one lol...nothing really complicated.
We put down 36% and our home was 425k We bought in august 2006 and got a rate of 6.375
It was a fairly quick process, the house was empty we did not have to wait for the owners to buy something else. THey were already living elsewhere. The longest process was waiting for permits and variances from the town of oyster bay and i have heard they have a freeze on all new construction projects so we got in under the wire.
