Girls that live in apartment buildings...

Original post by beachbum05

...How much are you tipping the maintenence crews, concierge (if you have them) for the holidays?

FH and I are trying to figure this out...and we're going bankrupt here....

i'm kinda in the same situation. we moved in like 2 weeks ago and everytime we call the super he says all his guys are out and he can't help us. the one time someone came by they were sweet though and we have been getting rid of a lot of boxes since we're unpacking so i'd like to do something... maybe homemade cookies and hot chocolate, coffee, cake, etc. - something to make the work day easier on them - and then a little bit since i can't give much at all.

on the other hand, i'm frustrated since i cam home today and had a christmas card with a tip envelope in it shoved under my door with their names and a place to write the amount . i'm all for tipping, believe me, but i just find that a bit tacky - the christmas card seems like hint enough... to each his own i guess.

Thats pretty standard. Everyone here got a piece of paper slipped under their door with names, etc.

But honestly, you have to do it.

Even if its something little....maintenence people DO remember. Our doorman told us that the maintenence guys determine their 'response time' based on the holiday tips they receive. They actually kept a list.

yeah, i know, and i would never dream of NOT tipping, it's just frustrating. kinda like when your boss tells you to do something and now you're less likely to do it when before he said something you had every intention. blegh.

My parents always tip the mailman, garbage people, UPS guy and the newspaper deliverer like $50 each

i think thats really nice - my dad usually tips the mailman

I know they bust their butts but think about how many people they deliver to and they are getting $ gifts from prob a nice amount of them

I teach kids all day so they can grow up and enter the buisness world or whatever... and i get a dollar store necklace.. or box of candy MAYBE .. whats wrong with this picture

Our super is getting 2 shirts, cologne, a navigation system and a pair of timbs hahah FH is a property manager for a real estate company on LI and hes in charge of all the buildings including the one we live in. so thats easy for us lol

I have a list of like 17 ppl so I give 10 to porters unless they help a lot, and they do. I give the ones that help and doormen that are new $20. and I give the older doormen $50. I give the super and his two assistants $50 and $30, $30 respectively. i don't give as much b/c there's so many of them.

I'll be moving out and renting my apartment. i wonder if i continue tipping after i move out. i guess that's up to the ppl that live there though.
