We are playing some Greek songs for the wedding, but I don't want it to become an all Greek wedding so I asked for 2 sets of 2 songs (4) total with a possible 5th, anyone else doing sets of international songs? If so how many? I called my mother to let her know and what came out of her mouth stumped me....ONLY 4 SONGS? WHAT ARE ALL THE GREEK PEOPLE GOING TO DO???? AS IFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF that is my concern for MY wedding day? I told her I won't even entertain that question and let's move on..I could hear my father yelling at her in the background, she is out of her mind....

Re: Girls who are doing International Music
We had about 25% of the songs Latin Music. Everyone was able to get up and had a great time dancing even DH's family which didnt understand a thing. It's your day so whatever makes you happy!

Re: Girls who are doing International Music
We're doing some Irish music. FI's father is a pretty famous Irish singer so he'll be singing about 2 songs then at some point of the night we'll play a few traditional songs. Maybe 4 songs in total?? During CH we'll also play some slower Irish music. Don't want overload either.

yes i did some romanian songs and some italian songs, i cant remember exactly how many of each. maybe 3-4 of each or a lil more but also spread it out and didnt do like 4 songs in a row ya know. We also played some spanish music
dont worry about playing greek music, the good thing is that even those who are not greek will get up and dance to...many of the greek dances you get a large number of participants and usually you get a big circle and most guests join in

we did 2 italian songs but dance versions of them and like 3 spanish songs. the spanish songs were a hit.
that was definitely enough so i wouldn't worry about it.

Yeah I know most of my friends will love to get up and do the dances and are excited for it..I just also know that I don't want to over load it with just Greek music and not have the dance music that we Iove as well. My mother tends to get a little carried away and thinks that this is just a Greek wedding, we aren't playing any Irish or Italian music for FH's side, he doesn't care to and I know that 4 songs are a lot when you think about how many songs you have to play throughout the night and how long these songs actually go on for. At most I will do 5 but that is it.

4 sounds pretty good to me, just do what makes you happy. Or talk to your dj beforehand and plan it out. Tell him to play about 2-3 songs at first and see how the crowd reacts and also how you feel about it. If you get bored of it and want american music then go up to him and tell him to finish with the greek music, if not tell him that you will tell him to play 1 or 2 more greek songs.

we had requested about 7 portuguese songs, and about 3 latin songs, but the DJ def played more, and we were glad they did. when the international music was playing, that's when the dance floor was the most packed.

Yeah I know I am not a good Greek but I am really not a practicing one either, I am really doing it for my mother to be honest...I know that is horrible but everything she wants to do is Greek related and not once has she stopped to ask if we want it or what we even want for that matter...I just know at my sister's wedding the Greek music overpowered everything and she was so upset afterwards I refuse to have that happen . I know we will have a great time dancing to it too but i just don't want it to be the only focus of music either lol

Re: Girls who are doing International Music
We didn't ask for a specific number of songs to be playef but we did ask that it would be a mixture inculding Spanish and Italian. Our 2nd dance song was also in Spanish.

Re: Girls who are doing International Music
We're planning on doing about 25% of the songs in spanish and 75% songs in english.
FH isn't happy about it but I told him he's marrying a Latina, that music is part of me too. I couldn't get married and not have Spanish music, I love it. I think my parents especially mom will want more..but I'm also telling the DJ to see what the crowd likes but def. at least 25% should be Spanish.
It's hard trying to find a good mix of the cultural/internal music and the other music we love...especially when it comes to our parents. They prob. want us to like it as much as they do, but fail to understand that while we may, we also love other music as well and that not everyone there will be in your case Greek, in my Case Latino.
Just do what you feel comfortable with

ITA this is what happened at my cousins wedding where they played like 2 Spanish songs before the DJ realized hmm maybe I should play more.

We are having our band play Italian AND Spanish songs. I haven't met with my band yet, so I'm not really sure how many of each we should play! Maybe 4 of each?

Re: Girls who are doing International Music
we have a similar challenge- fh is latino so we want to mix in some salsa, bachata, merengue, etc but balance it with the other songs
I think the 4 songs is a good number- but I did go to a greek wedding & some of my friends are big losers & never dance- but they all got up for the greek music and tried the dancing- it was really fun and we all had a blast
