Girls who assembled their own pocketfolds...

What kind of glue did you use? Is it a special type so it doesn't bump up underneath the paper, or that kind of adhesive tape?

Also, if you wouldn't say that spatial relations are your forte, would you recommend attempting to assemble them yourself? Like, I can't imagine the gluing of the main invite would be difficult, but I can be a bit spastic and wouldn't even know how to assemble the ribbon band with the monogram card around the outside.

Clearly I'm panicking about my invite budget, and I just heard it saves 100-200 to self-assemble from Tessa, so....any input would be appreciated!

Oh boy... I have no clue yet- I dont even know how much my invites are going to cost yet LOL! But, I dont think I could even take a chance in messing my invites up or making them crooked to save $100 b/c I know people will notice little things like that. If you were crafty I would totally do it. If not, I wouldnt even chance ruining your gorgeous invitations.

I bought a xyron machine that makes stickers up to 5'. I plan on using that to layer the invites but I havent started mine yet so I cant tell you how well it works.

I would post on the DIY board. A lot of those ladies are really talented and can give you more specific advice on how to do it or how complicated it is.

Re: Girls who assembled their own pocketfolds...

if you have the patiance deff go the DIY route
i used double sided tape as well as foam mounting squares

they are def veryyyyyyyyyyyy time consuming but i personally feel that not only do they save a lot of $$$ DIYing them but i als get the satisfaction of saying yes i made thoes by hand and it is exactallt what i wanted

I bought a glue runner from Wal-mart and the refills. I had that same problem with mine. But if you use a very thin bead of glue, it shows up less.

Re: Girls who assembled their own pocketfolds...

Thanks girls for all the input so far!

Tessa's ears must have been burning, because she just emailed me, my proof is number one on the list (yay!), and drumroll please....it's over my budget!

I'm not surprised, so it seems much more likely I will be assembling myself. I really don't want to choose a different style, so we'll see. I think FH is starting to feel bad though, he said he doesn't want me to be gluing things myself and is asking what our budget is and how much the money diff will be...maybe I should milk his seeming kindness for all it's worth!

Well, the invites I requested were a 6x6 square pocketfold with 4 insert cards (response, reception, directions, accomodations), a ribbon wraparound with monogram sticker, and personalized response cards (Mr. & Mrs. X, 2 seats have been reserved for you so don't bring your facking kids). Apparently this is more than $4. So I'm scrapping the ribbon and the personalization, and I'll keep my fingers crossed I guess. It would have been nice, but oh well.

I did all of my own cutting of the layering materials and ALL of the gluing assembly for my Tessa invites and I really didn't save that much money to be honest. And it was A LOT OF WORK! I'm not even kidding. Jsut the glue runners alone probably chewed up a lot of the savings. Plus if you don't have a paper cutter and all that you'll have to buy all that stuff which can get pricey. And unless you're a total craft lady, you just won't do as good a job ( I know I didn't at least). I even make cards and stuff for my family for birthdays and I didn't do nearly as good a job as she could do.

I'm actually a little mad at myself for taking on this project becuase now I have invites that I splurged on but will look like I made them myself anyway becuase I was silly and decided to do them myself. It really is best left to Tessa.

I would see if you could take out a layering color or make it smaller or something to go under your budget.

I bet that with the service and labor fee built into it, that's what's bringing it over budget. Ugh...I'm ready to just bite the bullet and go over budget per invite since I don't need a lot of them at all (probably only like 85). It would be ideal to stay under 400 total, but if it's 425...well, we won't go out to dinner one week lol.

Yea, I agree.... if you are over by a little, then I think you should def do it. Its not worth going through the trouble of buying materials to glue, cut, etc. Then the stress & labor of making sure everything looks perfect. Leave it to the professional I think it's totally worth it... just make sure to butter you FH up so he's okay with it

And because I'm a lazy SOB I'm like ok! Thank god I don't need many compared to a lot of girls. And it does include computer calligraphy on all the envelopes and return addresses, so i guess that's fair?

WOWWWW!!! Ali, what if you made the invite a bit smaller? Would that lower the price to where you can get the added extras?
