girls who did DIY invites

i know alot of you ordered pre-cut paper and assembled yourself but did you have them pre-printed or did you do them yourself at home? how tedious was it doing it at home and what kind of printer?

b/c my paper was shiny we had to use a friend's laser printer - it doesn't come out right on an inkjet printer. I guess it depends on how much work you want to do and how much you want to spend too. It might be easier to go to kinkos and have them print them up for you and then you can cut and assemble.

First I was going to cut and print myself but it didn't look that great. Then I was going to have the store cut the paper and send the invites out to get printed but that was so much $$. Now I decided to use the custom mix and match from mygatsby.com. It's the exact same metallic paper I chose and the'll print everything for me. It saved me over $500.

are you getting pocketfolds? do you still have to assemble them yourself?

all my paper was not precut i did after printing this way i could gang run them, some items i printed at home and some on a press at my old job. Either way it was fine.

I printed them myself with a color laser printer. If you are using metallic paper u need a laser printer because it just doesnt look that gr8 from an inkjet. i used an inkjet to print on regular cardstock & it comes out good (see my slipper tags) It really isnt tedious, u just have to have time and patience...it is def not something u want to leave until the last minute.

My directions are on the DIY board. I'll bump it for you.

It isn't terrible at all if you have people to help. You have PLENTY of time to do them and I started months ago doing a little at a time so it was never crazy. I cut the Reception insert one week then a few weeks later do the Accommodations insert and so on. I printed everything on my inkjet on regular cardstock...not metallic and it came out really nice. I used metallic paper for the mount behind the invite. The pocketfolds were easy to fold.

hey cloudnine!

i haven't done my invites yet, but i did do a mock version (check my profile). Another thing i did was determine how many inserts i would be able to use on one sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 paper. I did this for each insert, then I fixed the margins in MS word and used the drawing tool to create very thin lines so Kinko's will know where to cut. This seems easier to me for the printing process because i can't imagine myself sticking a million little inserts through the printer. If you'd like i can always email a sample of my margins or i could design a template for you to use. Always willing to help out my fellow 2010 buddies!

I'm getting envelopments which is similar just without the pockets and I still have to assemble them myself which is better because I plan on adding embellishments to them.
