Girls who get their hair colored etc, a little poll

DH was complaining that i went through 30 bucks just for tips at my hair salon on Sat.

I gave the girl who colors my hair $15 (usually less but i didnt feel like breaking a 5)

THe waxing girl $10 and the hair washing girl $5. (usually between 3&5 depending who I get)

The other couple with us thought I was crazy too. The girl said that 20% doesn't apply in hair world. I dont know... what do u think? am I overtipping people? Its not like we have money to throw around by any means.

I usually give the washer $3-$4 and the stylist about $10-$15.
Waxing is usually $3-$8 depending on how much waxing there is to be done, LOL

I usually tip in the 15-20% range for hair services - $3-4 for the person washing my hair, more if it's for a color job. The rest would go to the stylist.

It depends on how much it costs. I usually give $15-25 for my highlights (at my old salon highlights came to $120, so $15 wasn't much percentage-wise), but I give less than $5 for the shampoo person (usually $3, I guess more if they really massage the scalp or have to wash it a few times between the color and highlights...). It does really add up.

I give the washer 5 and usually the hairstylist 15. There was one occasion where she was particularly overbooked and she squeezed me in because I had a special occasion coming up... for that I threw on an extra 5.

I don't think you are overtipping people. I think that is a nice tip. I give my colorist $20 and my hair cutter $20 and his blow drying assistant $5 and the hair washer $5. Yes my stylist has a hair drying assistant. NY is crazy, but I love it My sister works at this spa/salon so I get a discount on color/cut so I like to give a little extra then I normally would if I was paying full price. And yes my FH thinks I am out of my mind for how much my highlights/haircuts cost. Easy for men when they pay $8 with a $2 tip.

I usually give the hair washer 2-3, unless it's the girl who cuts my hair. Then the girl who cuts/colors 5-10 bucks

DH & I were saying this last night - all of his haircuts for one full year probably costs the same as one of mine if you include tolls (my stylist moved to Jersey)

i give $25 for my hiar colorist/cut- she does both and $5 to the girl who washes my hair. i think thats enough since i spend over $125 each time i go and thats every 5 weeks!!

washer/draper $5
my stylist $15 - $20

if the assistant blows out my hair then I give her $5

the waxer $5

When I go I get highlights.Sometimes lolights and a trim.It costs $110, I usually tip my girl $20-$25

I wanted to add that I only get a sngl process semi-permanent color done.

When I used to get highlights or a double process, I tipped at least $20 to the girl doing the color, plus another $15 - 20 to my stylist.

Me too but I am tipping way to much. I need to talk to the math teachers and get advice because I am obviously math stupid.

i tip about 25-30- dollars to the colorist and 20-25 bucks to the woman that cuts my hair. 5 to the washing asistant and 5 dollars to the wax girl

i got half head highlights on friday and it came to $115, i gave my stylist $25 - do the math. i'd rather give a good tip to someone who knows what they are doing. remember - she/he has the power to totally screw up your hair, be nice to your hairdresser!

I get highlights and they usually wind up costing around 200 And I usually give 40$ tip-- but my hairstylist spends about 3-6 hours with just me so I feel he deserves it.

This is what happens to me usually. According to all you guys, I am tipping way too little. Since the total changes all the time, I never tip the same, but I also never tip $20 to my stylist, who is also the owner. I think that is just crazy.
