i'm dying to do this? but can you with color treated hair??
you can get a keratin treatment which has the same effect, is less harmful on your hair and around the same price. (actually its like $200-$300 depending on how much hair you have - not sure what japanese straightening costs)
It lasts 3 months though, it doesn't grow out, it just goes away starting at 3 months.
Raves Salon in Plainview does it.
This is what i'm going to do... my hair is soooo frizzy and curly with humidity, and i'm moving to Charleston... not a good combination!

You can do the keratin with dyed hair since its just like a super conditioning treatment. My friend does it out in Suffolk, she has a small salon set up in her home. She is licensed and has been doing hair for years. FM me if you would like her info.

Yes you can i have highlighted hair and the have a diffrent chemical they put on and a special conditioner!
is it damaging to your hair though?
this girl in my office gets it done and it look great, her hair is highlighted, just take some extra TLC to your hair
ok thanks!

thats the same reason i want to do it..my hair is super frizzy, thick and curly..so it takes forever to straighten with an iron

it will dry in its own straight, my friend lets it dry and than puts a curling iron on the end to give it some body

I've done it about 6 times already and love it. I go to Hayato too and use Ed!
where is Hayato?? do you know how much they charge?
I also go to Hayato, I use May - she's great. I've gone 6 times and LOVE LOVE LOVE it! I also pay only $250 (vs. like over $500 on the island). Hayato has 2 locations - NYC & Tokyo, Japan.
Because I was nervous about chemicals, Ipersonally felt better having people who brought their straightening business here from Japan do it for me instead of a salon who just learned the process to keep up with competition... IMO
FM me for any info about them or if you want to see an 'after' picture.

I think I'll do it for the summer so I can let my hair air dry.
My hair isn't curly but its thick and frizzy and I usually end up wearing it up all summer. I'd like to be able to let it air dry, but now it comes out gross when I do that.

Re: girls who get there hair straight
My aunt had it done and it came out amazing! That being said, I'm not sure I would risk it before the wedding, because while you can curl your hair with a curling iron it doesn't hold the curl for more than a couple of hours!

By the way I should add that I am not a city person so I can understand wanting to stay local, but they are SO worth iit. I take a train to penn and either walk (like 10 min walk or take a cab for like $7..
Also, at Hayato they will have you come in for a consultation first to see if your hair would be ok with the process or not. If they have any thought that it would damage your hair too much, they will turn you away instead of ruining your hair... which is very nice knowing they won't just take your money and hope for the best.. Side note to that, they originally told me at my consultation that it would dry my hair out a bit at the ends.... and it DIDN'T AT ALL. My hair never looked healthier!

09er crashing -- How long was your hair when you got it done? Mine is pretty long and I usually go to woodside but NYC would be a TON easier!!

Re: girls who get there hair straight
i used to always get japanese straightenging done. I went to the place in woodside. its nut there but if you pick an off day you can be in and out. my cousin goes somewhere in bayside and likes it better than woodside. I am not sure where though.
I stopped b/c my hair was limp and had no body. I wanted to be able to wear it curly for the wedding. Also a few years ago I had alopecia from stress (gotta love being a sped. teacher) I do though miss the days of walking out of the shower and letting my hair dry completely straight

yep- u can! There's a Japanese straightening product called I-Straight.... there are 3 different strengths, one of which is safe for color treated hair... 1st time I had my hair straightened was at the place in Woodside but as others have said it was very hectic and I couldnt take that again haha...next 2 times I've had it done it was with the I-straight and it worked great!

Re: girls who get there hair straight
A nail/hair place by me called Lily Pond (New Hyde Park) does an AMAZING job. I have a couple of friends who go there. They are around 200 or less I believe.
