Girls who had only one photog....

Did you regret it? Please share your thoughts.

We would like to save money, though a second photog is in our budget.

Thanks!

My sister had 1 and she regretted it. Her photog missed some important stuff, like cutting the cake. I don't know if it was because her photog wasn't good or because she only had 1.

IMO I think if you can afford having 2 photogs then you should get 2. While the main photog is with you and FH taking pics the other photog will be photographing the details and guests and also shooting from a different angle. For example, during your ceremony while the main photog is taking pics of you and FH at the alter reciting your vows the 2nd photog will be taking pics of you from a different angle and taking pics of your guests in the pews. I know budgeting is tough these days but definetly try to save somewhere else.

I only have one photographer. I went with him because I saw how he worked first hand. I was my couisin's MOH.I not only love his work, I admire his passion as a photographer. He worked his a$$ off. He got all the 'must get shots' & he got some photojournalistic shots too. I watched him, always looking around for something to photograph. My cousin had a big BP & was late for everything (as usual) This guy made it work & we did not miss the cocktail hour or any of the party. For a photographer to miss the cake cutting photo is unacceptable! In my opinion a photographer to miss a ' must get shot' like the cake cutting, ...............he/she is not very in tune to what he/she was doing! I think one photographer is plenty if you have the right photographer. It's mostly about the $$$$ with these vendors. In most cases, more is not really better.

I was also thinking of doing a second photog but have a super tight budget. In my opinion it is a good idea if you can do it. But that´s my opinion b.c I LOVE pictures. I take a million pics of the same thing all the time. To save some money you could get your second photographer somewhere else. For instance a freelancer. From what I´ve been quoted so far this is what I´ve found. Keep in mind I just started quoting so there may be places where it works out cheaper to get them both together.

If you want a info for a freelancer who has reasonable rates you can FM me. I am looking into using her for my wedding.

If it is in your budget, I would say go for it...your photos are the most important memoir of your day, so the more shots, the better. Some girls have one traditional photog and the other photog for photojournalistic shots. That way all the bases are covered. Make sure that whatever you do though...give your photog(s) a must take list before the wedding and on the day of your wedding!!

I hate to say it but it sounds like that photog wasn't good! How do you miss an important part of a wedding like that! I would have been so mad!! Doesn't matter whether you have one or two...cake cutting is part of your wedding....!

I only have one photographer and honestly, my photographer was the one who told me that I really didn't need more than one. He was so incredibly honest, does amazing work and has such a passion for his job. He will have a lighting assistant with him that day and he did tell me that would be something necessary, but other than that, unless you want photojournalism you only need 1.

Oh trust me I agree. She was very disappointed with the rest of the pics also. I'm sure if she was sent a really good one, he wouldn't have missed important shots. I am personally having 2 so they can capture different parts of the wedding at the same time. If it's too much for the budget, then obviously 1 is better than none.

Re: Girls who had only one photog....

I only had one, but I only had 100 guests with a large reception room. If you have a lot of people it might be worth it. There are some people I don't have pictures of but I think it's because i wasn't very specific w/ what I wanted. I didn't get pics of people that didn't dance. I thought it was a given that he would snap candids at the tables but he didn't. (my mom even asked him for formal table pictures) If I had more $ in my budget and a bigger guest list I might have gotten 2.

ETA: Although, I know someone who had over 200 people and 2 photogs. She was still disappointed that they only shot one angle of the room and didn't get half of the guests. and I know she paid a lot of $.

Hi,

I hired 2 photographers for 300+ party, I still didn't think it was enough. Lucky my friends busted out with their professional cameras and shot a lot of good shots. So I don't think 1 photographer is enough.

We are only having 1, a videopgrapher and zal shots. Combined with our friends and family who are awesome at taking pics, I am sure we will be OK

This sounds like a good idea. Adding zap shots is prob cheaper than a 2nd photographer. and the pics are very candid

Re: Girls who had only one photog....

I am only having one because of our budget but I also took into consideration that I am doing all my bridal Party, FH & I shots prior to my ceremony which is on site. So I do feel that is another huge consideration. If I wasn't taking pictures before the Ceremony, i would have definatly Budgeted for two. At least this way I do know Alot of my Important group shots will taken and as well as i want lots of pictures of Fh and I through the night, there is more leg room to take pictures throughout the evening of everyone, And my Photographer isnt outside with me and the Bridal Party for half the Reception and Cocktail Hour then. (IMO)

But I also am speaking with someone I recently reconnected with on facebook, she is a year younger then me and an ispiring Photographer, I love her 400 + pics on her facebook. So I mentioned to her for both our purposes. Her to get more practice, and me to get some additional shots from a different perspective. I will pay for to have a plate at the wedding if she wouldnt mind comming and snapping around some of her work. So she can build a portfolio & I can have some extra great shots and different angels for my keepsakes.
