Can you please recommend the tours you have done? We are going to Oahu, Kauai and Maui and I have been researching for weeks now. I have narrowed it down a lot but it's always good to hear from the girls who always have the best opinions.

Re: Girls who have gone to Hawaii
We didn't do a lot of 'tours' but here's some of what we did do
Oahu: Shark cage dive Pearl Harbor and the Missouri Hanauma Bay - snorkeling surf lesson on Waikiki Climbed Diamond Head
Kauai: Drive through and hike Waimea Canyon Ultralight Tour of the island (scary) Ride up to Hanalei Hiked the Kalalau Trail (never again) snorkeling trip along the Napali Coast FH played golf and I hit the spa
Maui: Horseback ride into Haleakala Crater Scuba diving hike at Io Needle Park ferry ride over to Lanai where we rented a jeep and drove around for the day Old Lahaina Luau Snorkeling at Black Rock Road to Hana FH played golf (again) and I hit the spa (again)
We didn't do any organized tours...just rented cars (even on Oahu) and armed with a guide book and GPS with lots of help for the concierges at our hotels, we had a blast.

We are trying to decide if we want to do a tour that goes over to Lanai. They seem really nice just a little pricey. We are definitely going to do Pearl Harbor and the Napali coast. We want to do haleakala just haven't decided how yet. The road to Hana is a must. Everything else is still up in the air. I have four books and I plan on buying another today lol. I heard a great book is Maui revealed. It's supposed to give the absolute truth about everything.
How was the shark cage? I would do it in a sec but I know FH doesn't want to lol. So maybe I'll have to save something like that for another time.
I definitely want to scuba dive but I'm not certified. I've seen that a lot of tours give you a short course and let you dive even if your not. Are you certified?
How was the snorkeling at black rock?

Re: Girls who have gone to Hawaii
The only official tour I did when I was in Hawaii was a tour of Honolulu and Pearl Harbor - it was organized by the hotel and it was great because they showed us a lot of stuff.

I did the same thing with the guide books! Also, tripadvisor.com helped us out a lot.
I'm not certified to scuba (FH is). We signed up for it right at our hotel in Maui. He took a refresher course and I got resort certified, which allows you to go up to 30 feet with the instruction - which on Maui is plenty. It was really cool. Snorkeling atn Black Rock is amazing (and free). Lots of great fish. I would tell you to rent snorkeling equipment at Sr. Frogs (they're all over Hawaii - on every island) and rent it for the week, because they charge an arm and a leg at the hotels - something we learned AFTER we overpaid!
Lanai was cool, but I don't know if it was worth the money. We took the ferry over, rented a jeep and explored Shipwreck Beach and Garden of the Gods. Be prepared to get filthy - red sand is everywhere - I had to throw out the clothes I was wearing because it wouldn't come out in the wash. Also, there's not much to see and/or do on the island. We're not going back there.
I loved Haleakala on horseback - FH not so much - 6 hours on a horse was a bit much for him. The sunrise tours are super expensive. The concierge at our hotel told us to save the $$ and go up there on our own for Sunset - it was amazing! You could also do it on your own for sunrise but you have to get up really really early.
I was a little nervous about the shark cage, but it was awesome! Not scary at all.

Re: Girls who have gone to Hawaii
One of the best things we did was ziplining in Kauai. We did it through the company 'Just Live', and it was absolutely amazing.
We did a bike ride down the volcano in Maui. DH loved it, I was scared to death.
The molokini snorkel tour is highly over rated in my opinion - do the black rock instead.
We took surf lessons from a hut outside the Westin in Maui - so much fun, and we just walked over and booked it.
In Kauai, rent a car and drive around the whole island. There are so many beautiful places and lookouts. Just don't drive home too late, there are some scary one-lane roads and bridges.
