Re: Girls who still live at home??

yes. I think I am still in denial. I haven't packed up anything at all. I am not moved into our apartment yet... and no I have no time to do it, which means I will be doing all the moving out stuff after we get back from the HM.
I already warned FH that there will probably be a lot of crying.

Re: Girls who still live at home??

I went away to college but moved home after graduation... It wasn't an option to move out since I was teaching in a Catholic school and working on a Master's.

I never left and I know my transition will be rough.

But... FH has been awesome about it. Luckily his place is not far from home (2 miles) so he knows I'll be popping in at my parents often.

I am sure the sadness will 'fade' but it's going to be tough for me. My parents are in their 70s and I am not ashamed to say that I am attached to them.

It will be an adjustment but the whole marriage thing will be too...

ETA: I sleep at FH's on the weekends

yes of course!! I moved to England four months ago where i will be living after the wedding for about 3 years (as FI sets up his business in new york, so we can move back). It is still very hard i think mainly because im so far away. I go back home in 6 weeks yesterday and im looking forward to seeing my family again and it will be so hard to leave again.

The night before the wedding when I went to say good night to my mom I sort of lost it, It was definitely rough. Then the day after the wedding I went back to pack and that night when I left I was a mess, it was so weird walking out of my room and it not being my room anymore. I cried all night when we got to the new aprtment

i was sooooo excited to finally be leaving home and starting a family with FH...until we signed the lease on our apartment. and then it hit me that i wont be living in my parents house anymore. i get a little teary eyed as i start to clean stuff up and start packing away things. i know i'll be a mess the night before the wedding...it'll be my last time sleeping in my room!

Aww

Kathleen...its going to be a little rough at first, but always remember that you're marrying the love of your life and you will get used to it all and trust me when I tell you that you're going to be missing each other when you go to work! Chin up!

Just to let you guys know I am sitting here trying to keep back the tears at work!

I still live at home, and as much as my family is driving me crazy I will miss them terribly, and be upset when I leave my room (my brother however is already sketching up plans for the room).

Date twin, we must have been sharing tears during the last month before we got married.

As I said before, I too was very emotional. As I left that morning to go to the church, I realized that it was the last time I was going to be leaving and not coming back as a resident of that house, that street, that town, that county, that state.... the photographer snapped a pic of me in my dress in front my house and i cherish it!

it's hard for me, but if you are lucky enough to still live within the same area as your parents, it must be a tad easier. it'll be sad, but instead of being 'ships passing in the night' when you are living at your parent's house, you will spend more quality time and think of things to do with them. it'll never be the same, but i dare say, it could even improve your relationship with them!

Re: Girls who still live at home??

i was the BIGGEST baby about this before my wedding! for awhile, i refused to talk to DH about houses, because i was so upset about leaving my parents. after the wedding i moved 2 hours away from my parents, because of DHs job. i grew up with my entire family being within a half hour of each other, so 2 hours away was a really difficult thing for me...
BUT, i got adjusted soo quickly! its sooo nice having your own place and keeping things how you want them and not worrying about keeping your parents up at night, having company over when you want...
and now i almost don't like when we stay over at my parents house for a weekend or something, because i'm so used to DH and i doing our own thing and having our own space....
and, its actually better only seeing them once in awhile- i treasure seeing them even more.
my advice is up your cell minutes, or get a 'flat rate' phone service like optimum voice so you can call them whenever you want and not worry about the bill.... also, when you see them, don't say 'bye', say ' i'll see you in a couple weeks', and talk about the next time you're gonna see them...
overall, change is TOUGH, but being married and haveing your OWN SPACE is AWESOME!!

I definitly will but I am kind of ready to go. My mom and I are very very close so it will be hard for me when I move out. After the wedding I will probably stay at my house for another 6 months and then we will be buying a house.
