It's funny... I don't consider myself an emotional person, but get very weepy whenever I think about leaving home and my parents. I was just looking at someone's proofs and thinking of what I will feel looking at my parents the morning of my wedding and I started to CRY!! I'm such a sap!

Definitely, I'm not only leaving my home, I'm also leaving the state and my Job. Major life changes for me up ahead.

Re: Girls who still live at home??
FH and I got an apartment a month ago, but since I'm finishing my first year teaching, I felt it was best if I stayed home during the week... I don't want to upset too many things at once. And it's going to be a huge adjustment, and although I'm excited to start my new adult life.. I'm sad to leave home

Yes. I am still very upset leaving home. But it's getting better.
I cried myself to sleep the night before my wedding...it was very tough... sorry, i'm no help.
but you learn to love the memories and look forward to spending long amounts of time with your parents.... but you have every right to feel sad now! but i promise you won't feel as bad when you do get married and move out!

I know this is going to happen to me too. It's all very bittersweet and I've never been one to like change.

Re: Girls who still live at home??
I will be sooooooo HAPPY to leave home after I get married, I live with my dad and step-monster who I cannot stand. I have no privacy or respect living where I am. Sorry to put a damper on the rest of you.
Fh and I don't have enough money to get a place of our own at the moment.

Re: Girls who still live at home??
DH & I bought a house back in August & I had all intensions of moving in prior to our wedding. In reality I just could not leave my parents & start a new life until it was necessary! My mom & I are best friends & I could not imagine not waking up in their house!
Now I have been married 6 weeks & living with my DH! There are days that the emotions really hit me & I get so sad but I am so happy to beginning my new life with my DH! This is a new chapter in our lives with new memories to be built! I will always cherish my time with my parents & I actually have the best of both now! Our house is only 2 miles away from them! It does get easier but trust me, you will have your days

Re: Girls who still live at home??
I am very close with my mom and we do a lot of stuff together so I know it is going to be hard. I actually live home 3-4 nights a week and 3-4 nights with FH. I joke with my mom and tell her nothing will change once I am married. My 6 yr. niece keeps asking me to move so she can have my room and live with Grandma. BRAT.

Yes, I am going to be very sad. I am sure I'll be crying with my mom and dad. While I am SO excited about moving into my new home with FH, I am almost scared of the day I move out. I am just not really good with change.

Re: Girls who still live at home??
Can I suggest that you spend a couple nights a week with DH before you get married? (Assuming of course that religion is not an issue) Perhaps this will ease the transition. You will have two things to contend with. 1) Your attachment to your home and family and 2) Learning to live with someone - your husband. Mom once told me 'you never know a man until you live with him.' She was ONE MILLION PERCENT right. Transitions are hard and even though I lived on my own for almost 10 years before I was married, it was very hard to deal with someone else's habits and quirkiness. Give yourself a chance to decrease your stress and try to spend less time at home. It may help.
I ,for one, told my parents on the day I graduated college, that I would leave home as soon as I could afford to do so. 4 years later and a stint in grad school, I was out. Mom often asks me to stay over. Once she told me, when I was single, that if I ever got pregnant, I could move back home. I didn't exactly know how to take that but I told her not to count on that because I was way too careful to allow those type of things to happen.
