Girls with Bands?

I was wondering if you're having the band do their own version for the 1st dance and other important songs or are they playing a CD.

Our song is by Norah Jones and I love her voice. I cant imagine anyone else singing it. But I dont know if it is silly to play a CD when a 9-piece band is right there?

We had the band do our first song, 'The Way you Look Tonight'. I would have the band do the song, I don't think that would look good if you have a 9 piece band just watching dance your first song while the CD played.

We are having our band play our first song, as well as the other important songs. We need to give them a list a month before so if they don't know the song we want, they can learn it. The only time a cd will be playing is during their dinner break.

We've heard the band we chose play at other weddings and they were awesome so I have no worries.

We actually played our first dance song through our band leader's ipod. Our song was more 'orchestral' with lots of violin solos and instruments not typically used in an entertainment band. We had taken dance lessons too, so we were more used to the sound of strings vs. horns. Having said that, our LAST dance was our band's version of our first dance song. It sounded fantastic, but very different.

I would ask your band to see if you could hear the 'intended' singer to sing your song. Who knows, you might like her even more than Nora! Good Luck!

We are having a band, but I think that we are having the band play the CD of the song....We are not totally decided yet though.

We are having a band and having them play our first song. However, FMIL chose a song for the mother-son dance that is sung in opera and requested that they play the CD, so they will.

We had our band play everything. Our first dance was Sentimental Reasons by Nat King Cole..we were 100% sure we wanted the lead male singer to sing it.

We had a ton of must plays and they did them all to our satisfaction.

The band will play everything for us. It is your wedding though and you really want to hear Nora then do it. I am sure the band will understand.

Our first dance was 'When You Kiss Me' and our band played it. I have to say it sounded great. All the songs that they sung were great and I never realized that they weren't the orginal.

im sure it depends on the band you have..but no joke Times Square sang At Last by Nora and omg.....ppl thought Nora was there! its funny these bands sometimes just hit the song so perfect....a few times at my sisters and cousins wedding we had to look up and take a 2nd look!

we are having our band play our first song-- what's funny is the girl's voices in our band are better in quality, tone and range than the original singer of the song-- so it worked for us LOL

i would have them do it, every song i hear live sounds so great (some sound so much like the original and others sound great but they have their own flair also) but the fact that it's live adds something to it. also, i can't imagine the band just standing there while it's played. i would have them do it-- i think they would do a great job with it, maybe have them sing it for you beforehand so you have a better idea?? HTH

My DH is in a band and plays a lot of weddings---they have played the song or used CD whichever people prefer....it's up to you !!!

I asked our band if they ever sing the 1st song and they said that most of the time the dj plays it. (our band brings a dj). So I'd imagine that having the real song is pretty common. I don't think having it that way would be silly...you can do it any way you want!
