Girls with platinum rings

What is your ring marked with??

I just got my ring reset into a palladium band. I considered platinum, but it was a lot more money and pall. has almost the same qualities but it's cheaper.

HOWEVER ...

My sister was looking at it on Saturday and said, 'Why is marked PLAT?'

My jeweler is a friend of ours, my FH does work on his car for him, but i don't think he would shell out the extra bucks to make it platinum. I need to get it appraised and need to know what it is, and I also want to make sure my wedding band matches ... so I will ask him what's up ... but I am just curious as to what yours says if you have platinum.

I read online that there should be a number in front of PLAT to say how much platinum it is -- 950 PLAT means 95% pure platinum, which means it's a completely platinum ring ... 850 is 85% ... etc. Then, I read somewhere else that just PLAT could mean it's all platinum. Palladium is part of the PMG, or platinum metals group, so maybe it just says PLAT because it is related to platinum???

Wow. It sounds like mine is Platinum then!!!! very nice, but I do not know how this happened when I paid for palladium and it puts FH and I in a strange predicament because we have to ask about it and know that someone, somewhere, shelled out money for it.

FH insists it was not him. We agreed to go palladium and I spoke to the jeweler about it, but FH said he did not call him and talk to him about it or change it ....

Maybe it says Plat because it is related to platinum. That's really strange!

I know!!! I almost think it COULD have been a mistake and then do I need to give it back if he finds out????? So I don't want to ask but I need to so that the appraisal's right and also so that my wedding band matches. Not that I can afford a platinum wedding band, so if it was someone's mistake / generosity .. hope they are generous next time ...

I read online that this means yours is 95% pure platinum - which is a fully platinum ring. No platinum ring is '100%' platinum - 5% is other metals always, I think. 950 is equal to a completely platinum ring, it's the highest it goes.
