How do you know if you need to get your ring redipped?

My sister said she's had her ring redipped when it starts to look 'yellow'... I dont know what that looks like. I brought it to the jeweler to have it cleaned and they didnt say anything but now I'm nervous.

hmmm i don't know about that-my ering is my grandmothers so its well over 50 years old-my fiance had it cleaned and resized before he gave it to me and proposed...but it looks like brand new so i dont know if they re dipped it or not but i have never noticed it looking any different in color

I have no idea when to redip. Maybe I will ask the jeweler if it's necessary and if it is, then probably right before the wedding so it looks like new.

Does it cost anything to get it redipped if you bring it to the jeweler it's bought from?

My ring came from Fink's.

I don't know...I don't have gold, but your best bet is to ask your jeweler.

yeah it starts to look yellow.....trust me you will know it when u see it....I was told if u use anti-bacterial soap a lot that it will change it faster and it also depends on your body chemistry as well....I work on an ambualnce and in a hospital so I wash my hands at least 20 times a day so mine started turning about a month after I got it....so I am getting mine dipped in 2 weeks actually, right before my e-party....if u aren't sure look at the ring band on the inside, that is where it will start turning first..

it depends if you got, I forgot what they called it but it is sort of like an extended warranty.....I got mine from Littman jewlers and my FH got the VSP they call it (extended warranty) and u can get it dipped unlimited amount of times for 3 years but after that u can't extend the warranty any further and they charge $40 each time.....

It will be different for everyone depending on the gold and the acid that your body produces, etc. I got mine in Sept and havent had to do this yet. Like the previous post said, it will turn yellow inside the band first.

You'll see it to start looking a little bit like yellow gold..if you don't see it, you don't need it re-dipped so don't worry about it! The acid on your hands sometimes makes it change a little..I had all my gold rings dipped in white gold and I haven't had to have them re-dipped at all and its been about 3yrs, but now I see them starting to turn so I may dip them soon .. hope that helps!

That's interesting. I've never heard of that. My ring still looks fine, and both my parents had white gold wedding rings and theirs look great (they've been married over 30 years).

My Dad does jewellery on the side. Gold loses luster after a while and jewellers redip gold into rhodium to give it the shine it used to have. Rhodium lasts a while but can fade after time.

Wow..I didn't know this would happen. My band is white gold, but the prongs are platinum. I wonder if I can even get it redipped???

I'm going to have to go to Kay's and annoy them with some more questions lol. I swear I feel like I live there sometimes. But at least I can use this as an excuse to go and get my ring cleaned
