So my bridesmaids will be getting their alterations at different places. Someone suggested having the tallest girl get hemmed first and then let the others know how many inches from the floor it should be...so they're all even in pics. Does that sound right?
ETA: Meant inches from the floor, not the gown.

Re: girls w/tea length gowns
No way. I think it depends on the girl. You should decide how long it should be on the girl--Knee-length, below the knee, etc. then let them go have their hem done. Is there a pic on the designers website? If so, that's probably how long their dresses should be.

Tea length is usually below the knee about 1/2 way to the ankle.

Re: girls w/tea length gowns
I think distance below the knee makes more since (I want them a little higher than traditional tea-length)--especially since i told them they can pick their own shoes, so heel height will vary. Thanks!

Yes this is correct....that's what was done for my wedding...and for my sister's....if you plan on taking shots of the girls in a line doing it this way will have the length exactly the same for everyone....so it will be a straight line across....

exactly. goes by each girl - you decide how long you want it (how many inches below the knee) and that's what they measure on each girl.

IMO, that might look weird if you have different sized girls, then you end up with taller girls that have the dress hemmed just below their knee.... and shorter girls with the dress hemmed up to their you-know-what.

That's what I thought but it didn't....then again you need to make sure everyone has the same height of heel in their shoe in order for it to be like this....My tallest BM was 5'6 and my shortest was 4'11 and none of them looked as if their dress was too short or too long.
