I was not invited to a friend's wedding because it was a small affair. We are really more like acquaintances at this point because we haven't hung out much in a very long time.
Am I obligated to to give them a gift?
I ask because they were invited to my wedding which is going to be big and was able to invite friends and acquaintances. If they come to my wedding then I would expect a gift because FH and I are paying for them to be there.
With our own wedding coming up, we're watching what we spend and only spending when necessary. FH doesn't think we have to give them anything since we weren't invited to theirs.
You should definitely still give them a gift. You don't necessarily need to give as much as you would have, if you'd been invited to the wedding, but give what you can afford. If you don't want to give a check, a gift card or something off of their registry is always nice.
off topic but the link above is a plate - from what i understand- u give leftovers on this plate and whoever u give the left overs too uses the plate to give leftovers to someone else so u never get it back or maybe u do if its leftovers.. am i understanding this plate ?

i would give a small gift because the only reason you werent invited was to keep the cost low. and since youre planning a wedding im sure you can relate!
so i would just send them something to show that youre happy for her and arent upset that you werent invited.

Given your relationship with them, yes, I think you should give a gift. Give what you can afford.

I agree, a gift, not money is good in a situation like this. i would go on their registry and send thing something wrapped to their house. I'd go more to the $50 range, but just find something you like on the registry.

I would send them a small gift to let them know that you are thinking of them. Maybe you can get them something from their registry or a gift certificate for a restaraunt.

I think a small gift is definitely a nice way of congratulating them. My childhood piano teacher, who lives in the neighborhood, dropped off a card a few weeks ago with $100 in it cuz she thought I was getting married this month!!! I could not believe how sweet that was of her to do that. Although, I think that that's a lot to give considering I haven't seen or spoken to her in so long.

Re: Give gift if not invited to the wedding?
Oddly enough i changed my mind halfway thru this post. My fh was/is friends with a guy he worked with for 3 years. When he and his now wife were getting married, they had a dinner rather than a wedding consisting of about 30 people which we were not one of. We didnt see them for 11 months after their wedding and we did not give them a gift however they will be invited to our wedding. If you see them on a regular basis i would say give a gift. In our case, i didnt even think of bringing a gift that far after the wedding. I hope im not a bad friend to them!
