If you have and iphone use the loose it app! DH and one of his friends used it before the wedding and lost 20+ lbs. You put in all the food you eat and the activities you do. It nothing more than a calorie counter, but he was so surprised at the calories in all the food he was taking and and it just helped him get a better grip of his intake vs output.

I used to track my calorie intake on livestrong.com! It really helped me out. Also, to cut down my calories, I stopped drinking all sugary drinks- soda, iced tea, anything! Nothing but water! I dropped weight like crazy! Good luck!

work out 20 minutes a day (bike, run, elliptical). i wake up 1/2 hour earlier than i normally would for work every day - run on the treadmill for 20 minutes and then start my day. it really wakes you up and definitely helps in the weightloss area

i also had a huge health scare with dangerously high cholesterol (close to 400) - it's hereditary b/c i'm definitely not overweight and my family has a lot of high risk factors for heart disease

i went on an 'absolutely no fat' diet last december and i've lost 20 pounds by not really dieting at all. started the exercise thing only about one month ago

cut out all the fat, and you'll see the pounds drop off! it's amazing - i don't even feel like i'm dieting b/c i just eat as much as i want of things that don't have fat (e.g. little meat - no red meat at all - mostly fish/chicken), no egg yolks, mayonaise, peanut butter (those are teh biggest culprits), any kind of nuts, etc.

HTH!

drink a TON of water... it fills you up and cleans you out

always drink a glass of water before you eat then wait ten minutes. if you are still hungru then eat. Most of the time our bodies confuse thirst for hunger and we are quik to saciate that feeling with unhealthy food instead of what we really need

I lost 25 pounds from last Feb...by using this website...
www.plantoeat.com
I only imported recipes from www.cookinglight.com & www.eatingwell.com
(some others too, but they were mostly healthy)
It took me a little while to get the recipes in there that I wanted but in the long run it was easier to plan out my meals!!! It also ensured that everything I was buying and eating was healthy! If you have any questions FM me!

I have hypothyroidism too! Are you on meds? And if so do you get you levels check regularly? If you are, and you do, then weight gain really shouldn't be an issue... Unless you gained this weigh before you realized you had hypothyroidism.

portion control is key! it also helps to be aware of what you're eating. i keep a log of my food on fitday.com and i use calorieking.com to find out the nutrition information! Hopes this helps and GOOD LUCK!

There are a TON of websites (and iPhone apps!) to help you track your calories and exercise, but ultimately you have to do the work.

my favorite quote: 'If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.'

AKA

if you plan out your meals, healthy snacks, when you will exercise, etc. you will set yourself up for success. when i don't plan out my meals and 'schedule' myself for exercise, that's when I turn to junky foods and start to slack.

hold yourself accountable!!!

i have hypothyroidism too. ive been on synthroid since i was 8 years old...so i never experienced the weight gain before cos we caught it early...however i do experience quick weight gain when my medication is off...as soon as they adjust it slightly i lose the weight immediately..so always stay on top of that...

also drink tons of water and dont eat at night...your metabolism is slow enough as is with your condition and eating before you go to sleep will only make it worse.

To lose weight quick I keep my calorie count at 1500-1750 a day, drink a lot of water, and run/walk 2.5 miles 3-4 times a week. Running at least half of the 2.5 miles. I find that walking 5 miles does nothing compared to running just a fraction of the time.

I do a combinaiton of many different workouts, and workout pretty much every day. I either jog outside 2-3 miles, go to the gym, or do my workout DVDs. My favorites are the biggest loser DVDs. Yest and Sat I actually went jogging outside, and did my 30 day shred dvd. Exercise is really what helps me the most. I also eat about 1500 calories a day.

cut calories!!
if you really want to loose fast! I eat cereal with milk for breakfast, chicken with veggies or omelette for lunch, and grapefruit or other fruit for dinner...this is about 1000 calories a day
