Giving a 'fake' date when ordering dress...

Giving a 'fake' date when ordering dress...

There was a post the other day about how you should tell bridal shops your date is a month or two before it really is. Now I have heard this before, but when I first started looking and they asked the date, 8/9/09 kinda just came out. I haven't ordered my dress yet, but I'm going to soon. My question is should I tell them that we changed the date and now the wedding is in july??

I ordered my dress at Reflections in Massapequa and they told me that they tell the company that the weddings are three months before they actually are. Makes you feel better when ordering.

My friends wedding is in mid September and she is still waiting for her dress and so are the bridesmaids. And they have her down as her wedding being in August. So I guess months is good. I would definately tell them earlrier than your actual date. I told mine a month before.... I kind of wish I would have said earlier.

I gave my real date. The salon encouraged me to because they said that your final fitting should be as close to your actual date as possible as brides have a tendency to drop or gain a few pounds right before the wedding. Made sense to me. If you go to a reputable salon I don't see why you would have to lie. Besides, that means you would have to leave your dress hanging somewhere in your house for a month or so before your wedding. If you're going to fudge, I would say no more than a week.

My MOH ordered her dress and 2 months later it was there...so it may be hit or miss depending on the designer....she ordered hers from Bridal Reflections in Massapequa.

I would worry about giving a fake date because of your last fitting and you dont want to to have to take dress home 2 months before your actual wedding date...JMO

I didn't think of the last fitting, that does make sense. I'm going to order it soon so really there should be no excuse, but I just hope it doesnt bite me in the

I agree that it is a hit or miss thing. One of the birdemaids ordered her dress without us and hers came quick. But we ordered ours in late Feb and we don't have them yet. And the bride ordered her in Oct 07 and she is still waiting. It just worries me. I don't want that to happen to me. I am not getting it altered at the place I bought it.

I got my dress in bridal reflections in massapequa as well and i gave the real date. the lady did mention she was putting it in right away and that it should be in by Jan. (hopefully) my concern is one the fitting and two storage. i sure don't want it anywhere my fiance can see it.

I would lie if I was you ... some places are good but you never known where these dresses are being shipped from ... and you dont want to pay for rush alterations. Better play it safe and get it earlier

I gave my real date but I also ordered my dress 14 months before my wedding so I am not really worried!

Yeah, not a big deal just tell them you moved the date up :)

I will probably tell the place a month earlier just to be on the safe side.... I leanred this from working as a dance teacher... when we order costumes each year we tell them the recital is 2 months earlier than planned.... works well

I gave my real date because they said it would be in August of next year which is plenty of time but also because I dont want the dress sitting in my house if I lied and said it was the month before! I would be afraid it would wrinkle!

I gave my real date....I guess I'll find out what happens. They told me it would take 8 months for my dress to be ready. I ordered it in April, so that means it should be ready by December. My wedding isn't until next Sept, so I think I should be ok.

i gave my real date but i insisted that they know that if i do need any alterations i need my dress at least by the middle of june since we have to drive down to LI with everything by the end of june begining of july.

well after a 2nd ordering I have my dress and its perfect I would strongly sugest ordering your dress as soon as you found the one it is better to have it sitting than we worried the last month or 2 before the day if/when its going to come.

this is exactly why i gave the real date - i want my final fitting to be as close to the wedding as possible!

I gave a 2 week earlier date for my dress and when I went into the store one day they asked for my date and when I hesitated the girl was like the 'date' you gave us. So apparently they expect it.
