Giving in just makes like easier ...

Giving in just makes like easier ...

So, I posted before about wanting to have a candy buffet as my favor. So far, my parents have been totally against hte idea making up excuses at to why I cant have one. So to shut them up I finally called NRC and they told me that it was no problem to set up and they can even put it up when they bring out the cake.

So my mom calls and say 'But all the old italian couples wont get it and they will be so offended and thing we are cheap.' Honestly, I dont care we are spending a lot of money per person and it will be a nice wedding, if they are unhappy with the 3 course meal and 5 hour open bar that is THEIR problem. But, I didnt say anything - I was mature and said 'As long as I can have the buffet, you can do whatever you want (as long as I approve it).' Afterall, SHE is paying for the extra favor.

Yea -- this may be a pointless story. But I realized tonight that as time goes on, it is just easier to give in. Parents are psycho and they are not open to new ideas - but as long as we both get want they want and there is no extra cost to me. I dont care...

Mom is right in one aspect. The 'old Italian' folks just might not get it, after all, they are very traditional people. Take from a Italian traditional mom. BUT, its up to all to make them aware of change. Change is good!

My mom, Italian, is all that nonsense tradition stuff, far worse than myself, and its making my daughter and I nuts. My daughter is good though, she just sets it out on the line and says 'this is it'.

I do agree though, some moms are psycho, I'm not! I just go with the flow of what my daughter wants, after all, it is her day. I had my day 30 years ago and by reading and communicating on the boards, times really changed.

My experience exactly. I also have the Italian parent problem.

I had made really nice favors w/ candy and worked so hard on making them myself. My MIL must have thought that it wasn't good enough or looked cheap and went and ordered new favors that she liked. She said it wasn't because she didn't like my favors but the new favors weren't ordered til I made my favors at her house the night before. I was so upset but its better to just give in and not argue.

I am so sorry you have been getting such grief! I can relate though - half of my FI's famly is from Italy and they will NOT 'Get' our cocktail reception at all. We're waiting for them to walk in an be like 'What is this? What do we do?'
