Glad I didnt go to NYU

Did anyone here go there?
It seems super stressful.

I heard this morning that another girl jumped and said 'Dont tell my dad'

How sad is that?

I went to Cornell! Actually most of the suicides were graduate students....But one of my sorority sister's boyfriends did hang himself in his dorm room...He wasn't found until 3 days later. I think being in such a competitive environment is stressful (they curve the mean grade down to a C to maintain academic integrity!), but really if your personality is such that you internalize stress like that you would probably be stressed at any school.

I am sorry to hear that.

I think a lot of people glamorize going to a competitive school, and then they are faced with so much difficulty that they are not used to. It is tough, especially that 'curve' thing.

It is hard--the first day they said to us over 60% of you were first or second in your class. Over 70% had over a 1350 on your SAT. You will not be the best anymore. Get used to it. Some pep talk!

ETA: I had the best time ever there though, and wouldn't have traded it for anything! Can't wait to relive my college days at my 5 year reunion next June!!!!

DH is starting the part-time MBA program at NYU's Stern School and I really hope he doesn't get so stressed out that it takes a toll on his mental health or our marriage...

I heard the part-time program isn't too bad. They know all the students are working full time. My dad wound up going to NYU for his doctorate because it was much easier than Columbia where he had started--I think their grad programs aimed at working professionals aren't too bad. Good luck!

I wonder what the reunion will be like?????

Let's put it this way--FH refuses to go because he thinks my Cornell friends are 'cocky' and 'brag about how much $ they make and how important they are in their jobs.' Hopefully some of my enemies got really fat though!

I went to NYu for my undergraduate degree. I graduated in 99. I didn't think that it was really that stressful. I actually loved it there. I feel bad that so many students have committed suicide this past year. I think it's giving NYU a very negative vibe.

There is an article on CNN that says she was the 7th person to do this just this year alone.

What is going on there.
