Take a look in any Hallmark or American Greetings store they aren't the cheapest put they usually have stock.
If you have a little time check local craft stores for a plain white Pillar. You can easily add your own touches. Believe it or not I saw a nice scalloped white pillar in Walbaums last night.

Try Party City. They have a nice selection of unity candles...the kind you find in the wedding catalogs. You can probably get one for $20 or less. Hope this helps!
We did it-- ended up with ring of roses and blue delphinias around a medium size fishbowl with one floating candle and 2 smaller fishbowls(one on each side) with a floating rose in each-- we think it will look much better on the oblong tables--the other centerpiece was round -- it didnt change the price but gave us a completely different look
