Glen Cove Mansion

As some of you know, in addition to planning my wedding (in a year!!), i'm also starting to help my sister looking for a venue for her 2015 wedding.

She wanted me to ask you if you all heard of the Glen Cove Mansion and what you all thought about it.
She wants an outdoor ceremony space, with a inside just in case of rain, and it must be on a hotel (which this looks like it is).
Any opinion? She is thinking about 150-200 people.

Glen Cove Mansion

I looked there for my wedding...it was very stately and beautiful inside... especially when you first walk in the stairway was beautiful, but the area for the outside wedding ceremony was not nice...they told us that people would still be using the hotel which is attached to the main area and we didn't like that. The main ballroom is an odd shape and the rug is very bright, we didn't think certain color themes would go well with it. Our biggest problem was that the whole place smelled like 'old' a bit. It went away after a while because you get used to it but for the first 10 minutes or so we had wrinkled noses.

On the other side, they offered great pricing and they had a really cool bar upstairs that could be used for an after party. A friend of mine had her wedding there and she really enjoyed it, but it wasn't for us.

If she's looking for mansions tell her to look at De Seversky (if shes okay with euro style) and the Royalton. We booked with the Woodlands so of course i'm partial to it above all :)

Glen Cove Mansion

Thank you for the honest review (I totally laughed when you talked about the smell because one place I looked at had the same smell!). I'm going to pass this info along to my sister.
She isn't really looking for mansions, more that she wants a location with an on-site hotel.
Again THANKS!

Re: Glen Cove Mansion

I looked at the majority of mansions in Nassau County. Glen Cove Mansion is absolutely beautiful on the outside. The grounds were gorgeous even when I went to see it after a snowfall. Onto the inside. Yes, it does have an old smell. It's an old mansion so i was able to get past it. We were shown all the different options for cocktail hour and I have to say i started getting the feeling that THIS WAS IT! Onto the ballroom. They advertise that they can hold over 200 people but the room was shaped weird and seemed really small. There's a separate bar off of the ballroom. It's the only bar that's there. I know there's table service, but when you're out dancing you want to just walk over to a bar. The dance floor is also just laid down and wasn't even set up when I saw it. The carpet is....interesting. There's also no doors that go outside from the ballroom. You would have to walk to the front door if you wanted some air. I was really disappointed and obviously didn't choose GCM. The bar upstairs was sooooo cool and the fact there's accommodations made me really want to have it there. I actually heard the hotel itself isn't so great either. I would suggest you go and see the mansion for yourselves. I went despite hearing not so great things.

As for other suggestions, none of the other mansions I saw had accommodations. Has she looked into the Garden City Hotel? Not a mansion but def has a vintage vibe.

Glen Cove Mansion

Garden city hotel was BEAUTIFUL but pricey and somewhat stuck up.

They booked our appointment in the middle of a bris (you know, the jewish celebration where the little baby boys get circumcised) and we felt very uncomfortable walking through someone's event to look at the facilities. He showed us the room while the rabbi was still cleaning up from the 'procedure'!

The guy was not willing to work with us on price at all. We left very disappointed and angry, especially since that was my TOP choice at the time.

That sucks that they were your top choice. I have to say every venue I went to were extremely nice and helpful. Off the top of my head other venues I can think of with accommodations are Oheka and Danford's in Port Jeff.

Glen Cove Mansion

I stayed there for a wedding and I was not impressed with the rooms (very old and outdated) and the service was HORRIBLE. Also, the front desk was so so rude and house cleaning tried to open our door at 8:00am to clean, then again at 9:30!!! I had to explain to them that checkout was at 11am and we'd be leaving then....Who does that?

Glen Cove Mansion

I can't speak from personal experience because I've never been there, but we didn't look there for my wedding because my dad's been there several times and isn't a fan, and my aunt went to a wedding there and said that people staying at the hotel were all over the place. (Not crashing the wedding or anything, but just sort of there)
