Glen Island Harbour Club or Surf Club??

I'm a new bride-to-be. We plan on getting married next summer. Which one do you prefer for a wedding with an on-site ceremony & why?? I would like a water setting during the ceremony, but the quality & taste of the food, overall ambiance, & service are very important to me. If the venue I choose doesn't have a beach setting (such as Glen Island Harbour Club), I'm willing to take pics at the nearby park if Glen Island Harbour Club is the better venue in terms of overall attributes.

If you had your wedding at Glen Island Harbour Club, did you find plenty of beautiful areas to take pictures & video on site?? Did you take pictures at the nearby park & did you have any trouble (such as needing to obtain a permit first??) Please advise! Thanks!!

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club or Surf Club??

i went to a wedding this august at the surf club...the food was amazing..the coctail hour was outside with plenty of space for people...the only thing i didnt like was the vieteneze hour was also outside so many people missed the last hour of the band/dj because they were outside. They also had a cigar roller stationed outside soo that was nice for the guys to sit and enjoy their cigar...good luck!

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club or Surf Club??

Im a 2009 Glen Island Bride. I loved everything about it, from the staff to the food to the outdoor site, etc.

We did not need a permit to take pictures outside in the park, we got so many gorgeous outdoor shots. If you have any other questions, please FM me.

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club or Surf Club??

I prefer Glen Island to the Surf Club. I have been to events at both but I like the food at Glen Island better.

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club or Surf Club??

Thanks everyone for all your help! It made my day ;)

I liked that Surf Club had a beach front (for the ceremony), but I knew very little about the place. Glen Island was very beautiful also.

If we decide to book Glen Island Harbour (or even Surf Club), do you think they'd be willing to drop the price at all or throw in freebies such as Viennese???? The price is just so high. I hope the sales manager can do something for us....

Re: Glen Island Harbour Club or Surf Club??

Hey Regina, it was interesting that you mentioned Chateau La Mer. I had checked out that place as well!! It was a decent place for the money, & I was leaning towards booking that one until I visited the halls in Westchester particularly Glen Island Harbour Club & Surf Club! There was no place on LI like the wedding halls in Westchester, not sure why. Of course, I only looked at places with water fronts; I didn't look at castles or anything like that, lmao.

There were 2 things about Chateau La Mer that I wasn't too crazy about, and this is just my opinion, but when I drove there, I felt like I was going fishing or sailing than to see a wedding hall, lol. There were so many boats surrounding the area; I almost couldn't find the place right away. I was more into finding wedding halls with a beach front, but it wasn't a bad place. It's also cool how they put the bride & groom on a yacht to greet their guests. The dance floor was also kind of small--not sure why?? They had the smallest dance floor I'd ever seen for a wedding hall. It's still worth checking out though. Just my $ .02 ;)

I think it probably depends what day of the week/time of day, but absolutely you can haggle with them. What we ended up with to get a significant amount off per person, is having them drop the Intermezzo course (sorbet). Especially for an afternoon wedding this seemed fairly unimportant, and the amount off they gave was way more than this sorbet could possibly cost. We dropped this to make room for a Viennese table, which they also discounted (however would not give extra time for on an afternoon event, however should save a little time on skipping the intermezzo)
