To save money, we aren't using live musicians, so i opted for our dj to handle it.

I have to find out about a microphone, good point.

Copswife, how many flowers did you have in your centerpieces?

What are you doing for ceremony decor?

Are you having an arch?

I thought maybe I could skip the arch bc the water backdrop was nice enough but I'm not sure.

Re: Glen Island Thread

I never asked how many flowers in the centerpiece, I only asked that there be barely any greenery showing, other then my light green hydrangeas.

For ceremony decor, we did some of the centerpieces from the receptions lining the aisles with taffeta draped from each centerpiece. They will be resting on taffeta covered columns. And they are low, I wanted my guests to enjoy the view. I did hot pink rose pedals down the aisle on the runner. For the 'altar', I did two tall taffeta covered columns and two small ones with our centerpieces on all four columns.

Our ceremony starts at sunset, so we are lining the window sills with all different size candles, small ones, huge ones.

Your ceremony decor sounds absolutely gorgeous! I LOVE candles.

What time does your wedding start?

I was thinking 7pm ceremony but on my date, sunset is at 8:30!

So you 'recycled' the ceremony flowers for the reception, right? I was hoping to do that as well.

I believe I had about 60 roses and 14-16 hydrangea stems. The price was outrageous but I really wanted big centerpieces to balance out the tables and I didn't want any greenery showing.

I think they automatically put the number of flowers into the florist proposal at Arcadia, but it's definitely a good idea to have them do it if they don't. Reason being, you want to know exactly what you're paying for (I think they charge something like $3 per rose for example). And, if you don't like a lot of green showing, it's easier to say, 'okay, we can afford to add __ number of roses to the arrangement.'

Jennie,

Good idea, that is so true. At this point, I'm so over worked, I don't care what they do. But for other brides, that is such a good point.

Our ceremony is starting at 7:30 and sunset is 7:58, but the sky should be a bit glowy, that is what i am hoping for at least!

Jennie, did you have a microphone during your ceremony? How were the acoustics of the room for vow exchange?

If I remember correctly, there was a microphone set up at front of the room for our pastor and our readers. We didn't speak directly into the microphone during our vows, but everyone heard us just fine (I actually just polled my co-worker who is sitting next to me to ask him if he heard us since he was sitting in the back). I believe Glen Island set it up for us.

Re: Glen Island Thread

I can't believe they don't have a food tasting. I guess i just assumed. That's alittle annoying. I mean i heard the food was amazing but how do you decide what you want if you haven't tasted it?!?!??!?

For my centerpieces ( i wanted low centerpieces) arcadia quoted me anywhere from $90-$125 depending on how may roses i wanted. I really want alot on candles.

My BoK ranges from 125-175 depending on how many roses as well.

Arcadia also suggested, since i have the room with all the window and since i am obssessed with candles.....that they place hurricane Pillars on the ledge all around the windows. So ithink i'm doing that as well.

As for the music....I'm still deciding. The issue we have is that we need greek music as well. So its hard to find bands that do both american and Greek. we went to hank lane in the city....and i have a feeling we will wind up with them....but i thought it was too expensive. we'll see.

Jenniesunshine did you get your hair makeup and nails done in new rochelle? If so, where? Did you block hotel rooms? If so, which ones?!?!?

Re: Glen Island Thread

I agree that the no food tasting thing is really annoying. I think this is a relatively new policy since they offered a food tasting (albeit after we'd signed the contract) for us and our parents back in May of 2004. The food is really incredible, but I think it is really hard to decide what appetizer and entrees to get when you haven't had them before. But that's neither here nor there

Dani18 - Yes, I did have my hair and makeup done in New Rochelle at the Radisson. I had my RD at Zen Tango restaurant in the Radisson as well (a great Asian fusion place that has a kind of Asia de Cuba feel to it) and they have a VIP lounge that you can rent out for after parties. We just rented it out for a cocktail party after the RD since we didn't invite our OOT to the RD.

I booked the honeymoon suite - which is a one bedroom hotel room connected by a door to a HUGE livingroom/sitting area with 2 desks, 2 couches, a roll-away bed (in addition to a sleeper sofa) and a TV. It was ideal because I had more than enough room for everyone to get ready in the room and people who were staying in the hotel (like our moms) could just drop by the room when it was their 'scheduled time' to be there.

Hope this helps!

ETA: I didn't have my nails done in New Rochelle. I got a 'permanent french' at my local place before I went up to Westchester BUT I know that they recently opened a Dashing Diva nail salon in White Plains. I don't know if you know the one in Manhattan, but it's a really cute place (kind of overpriced though) that is very, very girly (everything is pink) and they serve cosmos! It would be a cute place for you and your BMs to go.

Are you ladies having day of coordinators?

What is your ceremony schedule?

Other halls I looked into said I did not need one.

I believe Rocco said the DOC often got in the way and recommended against it because the DOC would be unfamiliar with the hall. I cant remember if it was indeed Rocco or another BM at a different hall. I visited sooooooo many halls!

If you are looking for a DOC, check out Elaine Deluca from Exquisite Events. I used her (so she knows the hall! She made like 10 trips up there with me ). She was outstanding and I had such a wonderful, stress-free day just enjoying everything. GIHC is great, but last minute things always come up with all vendors and it was great just having her there to deal with it so I could enjoy the day with my husband, our family and friends.

Oh, our ceremony schedule was that our invite time was 6:30 for a 7pm ceremony, and our cocktail hour started at 7:30

She is the GI guru.

Have you ladies heard anything bad about GI?

I love everything but the exterior of the building. It doesn't look as nice from the outside.

Menu

Which appetizer and cocktail hour tables are you picking?

I'm thinking the Spanish Bistro, New Orleans Mardis Gras, Mediterranean Seafood, and don't know what to pick for the fourth!

I was going to do the Seafood Ravioli for an appetizer but now I'm not so sure.

I just picked foods I like. Is that wrong?
