Well...i dont have anything on me at work re: the Ch stations....i'll check tonight and let you knwo what we think we are going with. But since they don't do food tastings....i want to wait and hear allll about Copswife's wedding and their food! As far as the Cake...i think i'm just going with the cake GI provides....I don't have anything specific or anything special in mind...just cake decorated with flowers...nice and simple. Who knows! Are any of you doing the VH?!?!?! how much do they charge...i forgot. We are still debating. if not what are you doing for dessert? Jenny did you do the VH?!?!? If so...was it worth it?

Also, where are you getting your cakes?
Something that they didn't mention to me until I specifically asked is that the GIHC cake person does not work with fondant icing at all. This meant that I definitely needed to go outside GIHC for my cake because it could pretty much only be done the way I wanted if it had fondant. I used Cheryl Kleinman in Brooklyn and the cake tasted amazing! She makes really great samples for you to take home with you too - even before you sign the contract.
The dessert we chose was the Frozen Cappuccino and it was out of this world. It went really well with our cake, which was dark chocolate and filled with mocha and cappuccino fillings. We didn't do the VH because we thought the cake and dessert were so great on their own. At that point, with all the food from the CH and the reception, people were really full anyway.

I am not doing VH. I think they give MORE than enough food.
Where are you doing wedding pictures?
Just around the Island or elsewhere?
I really want Manhattan shots so we are probably going to start in the city, then head over to Wave Hill, then Glen Island.

I think I invited about 150 or so and we had just about 100. I was pretty annoyed that we didn't make our minimum and we'd really only invited close friends and family. People that I'd thought would be definites weren't.
There was another wedding going on . I didn't see the other bride until the end of the night because we were both leaving at around the same time. There was a bridal party taking pictures around the park earlier in the day but they may have been from Fountainhead or one of the other local receptions halls.
During our reception, however, the music from the ballroom next door got really loud - we could hear the bass thumping. Our DJ just started to play our music a little louder to counteract that . I think this went on for about a 1/2 hour or so.

Thanks!! I couldn't wait to eat the top layer since I didn't want to risk it being freezer burned, so we had it on our 2 month anniversary, which was also the day we moved into our new apartment in Manhattan. Seriously, it took us a WEEK to finish the top layer - it was HUGE!!! But it tasted so good - for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, midnight snack, 4am snack

Re: Glen Island Thread
I have a 100 person guarantee. I will probably invite around 130-150 people and expect anywhere from 100-120 people.
How about you?
Cocktails
I believe it was a Fountainhead (same owner) bride who told me but you can have your own cocktails served. I am color coordinating with my bridesmaid dresses and flowers. I don't know if this is an obvious thing to do but I thought I'd suggest it to you ladies.
I think we should push for tastings.
The worst they can do is say no.

I did this and it wasn't a problem at all - all Rocco asked me to do was provide him with the drink recipes. If there was something he didn't have (like pomegranate juice) then we did something else. They were really easy to deal with regarding specialty drinks

We invited about 230 and we have 187 coming! I do not believe that there is another wedding going on, but I could be wrong.

I agree that we should push for a tasting.
Please tell me what Carlos says.
Rocco told me that he could POSSIBLY do a tasting for our parents but I think that was so that we would book. Now that we booked I don't think he would do it.

He shouldn't go back on his word, if he said he would do it, make it happen!

Out of Town Guests
Where did you block out hotels for your guests?
We just recently moved to NY. Half our guests are out of state.
Do you think I should do a Manhattan hotel so our guests can enjoy the city for their visit? I think they'd be pretty bored in Westchester. What do you think?

I am using the Radisson right near Glen Island, they gave us a group rate of $144 a night.
If you do a NY hotel, consider also doing a shuttle bus from that hotel up to Glen Island. That way people can still party without worrying about driving back to the city.

Re: Glen Island Thread
Are you getting a limo?
I don't know if I should provide transportation to my Manhattan guests to New Rochelle.
My Manhattan friends seem to think GI is in upstate NY!!!
Are you getting a bus/van for your bridal party?

Re: Glen Island Thread
I'm getting a limo to get me from my house, to the hair salon and then up to Glen Island. Remember, I'm getting married there also, so it makes no sense to get a big limo and spend the money. I know, everyone from Manhattan thinks Westchester is far, it cracks me up. Definitely consider a charter bus from the hotel. Trust me, they will start partying before they even make it to Westchester!

Re: Glen Island Thread
How did you do the lighting for your reception?
Does the DJ do that?
I wanted pinpoint lighting for the tables.
Copsbride, are you having speakers in the ceremony room?
Sorry for all the questions. I have SO many questions.

Re: Glen Island Thread
Everytime i tell someone where i am getting married....they either say....'where the hell is New Rochelle' , 'Why so far' or 'thats all the way upstate' ITS ONLY 25 MINUTES FROM QUEENS!!!!! People are out of control!
I think we are goign to check out hotels after our appointment with GI this weekend. Can anyone suggest anything else. Definately goign to the raddison. Since i'm getting ready at the hotel...i need something spacious. Any other hotel worth looking at?

Re: Glen Island Thread
I had a lot of guests from Manhattan since that's where DH and I both work - there's actually a MetroNorth train station in New Rochelle. I just put on our website the train info (it's a 40 minute ride from Grand Central) and told them that the last train to NYC was at 12:15 and I provided the number for some taxi services. (This was also good info for the out of towners who might want to take the train ride into NYC).
We had a shuttle bus for guests to go to the Radisson. We used Top Class Limo in Yonkers. There is some weird law in Westchester about which companies can operate shuttle buses, so just make sure that whatever company you go with can actually operate their bus in Westchester.
I think having people stay at a Manhattan hotel sounds like a fun idea, especially if you get them a shuttle bus up to New Rochelle. Most of our friends/family live or lived in and around NY at one point in time so NYC wasn't too big a deal for them. It sounds like a great idea for true out of towners though!
