don't forget to ask your hall if you are alloweed to bring in outside food. i know with my hall, i am not alloweed to bring in outside food & i have to use a bakery they specified.

I will. My RH doesn't supply the cake and I'm pretty sure that they don't provide of list of individuals that I must use. I meet with them on Sunday and will definitely ask.

My SIL is very allergic to gluten. Her and my brother had an ice cream sundae bar instead of a regular cake. It was great! Everyone loved it! Just an idea.

I just have an idea. What if you request that the top tier be GF and the rest normal for all the guests, or maybe you already thought of that. I am sure a bakery will figure it out if you do request it.

The concern I have for that is with cross contamination. I am not sure how they put together cakes and there may be items in the middle but I would still be concerned. Also, that means the frosting/fondant which would be on all portions of the cake would have to be gluten free. I guess it's just about finding the right place.

i have a friend who used to work at a bakery, and she once told me that because the gf cake is a different texture/make up from a regular cake...the layers wouldnt sit right. so a tiered cake w/ 1 gf layer would never work.

oh yea & theres a bakery in smithttown that has gf bday cakes...i dunno if they do wedding cakes to begin with

That makes sense....which makes me think that if we did a GF layer that it might have to be situated on top of a faux tier. I ordered a birthday cake from that Sweet Karma place. Nothing crazy - yellow cake with choc pudding. Will have it Thursday for FH's 30th. Depending on how it tastes that may a possibility.

That is a good idea. I was also thinking the cupcake cake might be a good idea too.

So I picked up FH's bday cake from Sweet Karma today. They also had a bunch of little desserts that were gluten free. FH LOVED the cake. He was sooo excited to have a real birthday cake. The little desserts were good too. I got pricing on a wedding cake and I think I'm going to use them.

Yes. I may use Sweet Karma but haven't finalized my decision. The cake was great and the price was even better. I've read some good things about them so they are definitely in the running. Let me know about the Massapequa place.
