I'm trying to decide if I should do either of these...or just forget it! If you are using a self-tanner....what do you recommend? I don't want to be orange...

Re: Go tanning...or self tanner
im going tanning for a few sessions. I want to have a little color but not too much. Im afraid with self tanner it may streak or run onto my dress(only bc I never use them I worry about that)

I'm going tanning too. Self tanner scares me... too many 'orange' horror stories. Plus i want a base tan for jamaica! self tanning for that just isn't the same.

Going tanning, used self-tanner once, after 2 days looked like a lizard!! It got so scaly looking, I had to SCRUB it off!!

Why not go to one of those spray on tan things? (I'm scared of the self tanning lotions and stuff, but I've read good things about the spray on stuff)
Don't go tanning - soooo bad for your skin.
(Hehe, tanning is not an option for me anyway, with my Irish skin)

It varies for everyone but I think 3 times is good. Not too much and not too little!! Good Luck!

Re: Go tanning...or self tanner
generally speaking i am against artificial tanning, however i have been known to frequent the tanning salons prior to a special occasion. i would go every 2-3 days, starting off with 10-15 minutes, slowly working up to 30. go easy, the last thing you want to be is red and pealing...

My vote is go tanning. I'd be worried about the self-tanner and the orangina effect.
My wedding is in September [2005] so I plan to hit the beach as much as possible that summer and up until the wedding.

I woould say go tanning..but the last day you said you go is the 14th..you are getting married on the 17th? I would try to start asap..and not go as close to the date....Especially if FI isn't going you don't want to be the only tan one there...

OK-I say go tanning for sure. I go tanning once a week. People say 'oh it is so bad for your skin' but i luv going. I use the tanning lotion and i always make sure to put good creams on at night and in the morning to keep my skin nice and wrinkle free.
Anyway you need to go tanning 2 or 3 days in a row to build up a base color- then go a few days later to maintain.
Good luck!

Ok - start immediately but I would not go every day or for up to 30 mins!! Unless you tan easily and never burn.
I went to my 3rd session yesterday and only did 15 mins and feel a little 'crispy' today ... if I felt this way and my wedding was in less than two weeks I would not be happy.

Re: Go tanning...or self tanner
I regularly (ever other week) use self tanner and I love it for regular use. I use Bain de Soleil on my body and Netregena on my face. HOWEVER.. there have been occasions where it has rubbed off from sweating onto my clothing. So for the wedding I will go to a tanning salon and hope I don't get too wrinkled.

I have used the Mystic Tan spray tan and like it alot. I recently have been using the Tantowel. I think the website is www.tantowel.com. I love it. It's like a moist towelette that you use on your face and body. It's not a dye or anything so you don't have to worry about streaking.

Re: Go tanning...or self tanner
I love to be tan for the summer months, my strategy that works is as soon as it gets warm - May, June, go every weekend to lay out for about two to three hours max and you build up a nice natural tan - I usually do this the whole summer and have a great tan -no sunburn whatsoever - I also use sunblock as a first layer and then put an oil over that, it really protects my skin yet gives me color, I'm against tanning salons because they are very harmful - double the danger than the real sun......but it's convenient.... I've also used self tanning cremes and they are okay, kinda of a pain to apply and dry etc...and yes the first day it definitely rubs off on the inside of your clothes and if you sweat later on it tends to rub slightly on fabrics....but the better ones give a nice color - such as clarins or the other cosmetic brands......as you can see I've really investigated this - basically I try to naturally tan as gently as possible and I do this only in the summer so that my skin gets a rest during the winter-fall etc.
