the number of championships you win is meaningless if you do so by having no competition

well who's fault is that? Certainly not OURS!

Case in point: the Orioles, BoSox and yes even your METS have huge bankrolls and plenty of money to spend on 'buying good players'(as you Mets fans love to put it..) But its not our fault that your 'people' cannot ever figure out how to use that money to actually make a GOOD deal to save your life

So don't blame us for the fact we have 'no competition' .. which, if you really thought about it, is entirely UNTRUE. I can name plenty of fantastic ballplayers , position by position, that might be better than the guys on our team. We certainly do not have the ONLY talented ballplayers in all of the majors on our team, by far

Mom and I couldn't help but laugh when Jeter went into the stands - he's so fantastic!!!!!

When he dove all I kept thinking was 'not the face....not the face '

his mascara almost ran...

HEY!
Don't hate the pretty one!

They're all just jealous

I don't think YOUR METS token pretty-boy Piazza would have made such an amazing effort Heavens forbid he HURT himself (again...)

How could he hurt himself, Clemens doesnt pitch against him anymore

So Piazza is lucky then!

well not really because had it been the Mets up against such easy competition they most definately would have lost!

ANd if the competition was sooo easy (METS being one of them) why didn't the mets make it?

Re: GO YANKS GO YANKS

ha ha, Feleicia I got you dead to rights

I love this misconception that the Mets and Sox have as much capital as the Yanks, but don't know how to spend

The Mets get their revenue from the team and the team alone.

Steinbrenner has the Yanks, the YES Network, the Nets and all this other places to get his money from, so it is very unequal and the Yanks are not to blame for it but MLB is

This is why no one cares about baseball other than NY and eventually baseball will die a slow quiet death and you'll have The Texas Rangers, MLB and Steinbrenner to thank for it

I hope this puts to rest any crazy Red Sox fans who think that Nomar can even compare to Jeter. Hmm.. let's see - one guy jumps into the stands to catch a ball, the other sits on the bench nursing his Achilles... Who would you rather have on your team? Oh yeah, and one guy has 4 World Series rings, too...

You folks are too funny...

Just saw a rumor online that the Yankees are thinking of trading Kenny Lofton to the Phillies for Placido Polanco. If so, it's a bad deal for the Phils!

To be honest.. as a baseball fan.. why the Yankees wanted Lofton is a mystery.

Don, your points are well taken. Any BASEBALL fan will have to agree that its become come a 'business'... yet its hard to directly blame ONLY the Yankees as a culprit . I dare say that a lot of other big money teams are just as much to blame for what MLB has become (Orioles and Braves, specifically...)

And I doubt HIGHLY baseball will 'die a slow quiet death' anytime soon ..

OK , let me rephrase.

You are right -- you didn't blame ONLY the Yankees for all that is wrong with MLB.. You merely listed everything connected to the Yankees organization (YES, NETS, etc) that has contributed to why the Yankees are 'bad for baseball ' And yes, you threw in a reference to MLB and the Rangers as well.

Listen, I realize that the MAJORITY of baseball fans out there hate the Yankees... Its easy to blame them for all that is wrong with the sport. All I'm trying to say (and you did, to a degree) is that there is a bigger problem here than merely the Yanks and Steinbrenner. Trust me, nothing would make me happier than if someone else owned the Yanks .. I'm no Steinbrenner fan

it's mostly MLB's fault for allowing this

While the Yankees do have a high payroll, look at how much money they bring to other stadiums when the games sell out when they are in town. They played the O's a couple of weeks ago and it was the largest crowd in Camden Yards history-even bigger then Ripken's last home game. How bad can that be for baseball? What other team has that kind of draw?

ture.. but the trouble is.. when the Royals are in town the stadium is barely half full.

Putting the Yankees aside for now.. MLB needs a salary cap like they do in football. The luxury tax is a joke.

Football puts together a package for fans that has its good teams and bad teams.. but you never know who is going to win. Nobody would have predicted Pats-Panthers this year.
