Football puts together a package for fans that has its good teams and bad teams.. but you never know who is going to win. Nobody would have predicted Pats-Panthers this year.

that's true....it was 'different'

and no one could have predicted Janet Jackson's b o o b would make an appearance either.

Yankee stadium half full is still a lot more then a lot of clubs draw on a regular night. And I'm making a point about the amount of people they get to the stadium when they are on the road. They are a draw for other stadiums which contribute to that teams revenue. Even as a Yankee fan I could care less that the only draw 30,000 when the Royals, or a team like them, is in town.

Take tonights game against the Mets as an example. The Mets are having a hell of a time filling the stadium. This whole weekend they will have a sell out crowd. That's just one example. It's not just because it's Yankees vs. Mets. This is the kind of draw the Yankees have on the road.

I kind of like the salary cap but then my problem is where's the money going? It's just going to the owners. I'd rather the players get it.

It's a good point....even in the spring training/pre-season they have great crowds. My grandfather goes to the games in Fla. & he says the crowds are just like they were in NY....Big & Loud!

Bellz.. I'm just saying that for the good of the game.. the playing field needs to be leveled.

The more one team wins.. the more people start to lose interest in the game. JMO.

And on the b o o b thing, I say keep them coming. people got way too uptight about it.
They're a beautiful part of the female anatomy. That's why guys like them.

And they look awful on guys.

I'm trying to get you in trouble again.

What about when the Yankees dominated in the 50's? Baseball is still going strong over 50 years later. What about how Atlanta won the division 12 years in a row? Is that bad for baseball?

You are soooo getting me in troble again.

My point was anything can happen. I understand TRUST ME...DH is a Mets fan & we have this arguement from Spring Training right through till the WS & even after.

The thing is fans love their team, no matter if they win or lose....everyone else is just a fair-weather spectator.
(I am going to get soooo flamed for that )

Re: GO YANKS GO YANKS

A streak of winning so many championships or divisiona has nothing to do with the fact that 2/3 of the teams around don't really even have to show up for the season.

The Braves winning all those years actually became annoying. That's the reason the demise of the Braves was so eagerly sought.

The Yanks of the 50's.. that was different.. it was a game then.

The talent pool today is very stretched as it is. There's no way some of the players (even regulars) today would be on a major league roster of yester-year.

The fact is that baseball has become more of a business than a game. Corporations and conglomerates pouring money in ruins the game. Players are way too over-paid for simply playing a game.

The idea of a game is to have a fair and balanced playing field. When one team puts 100 - 200 million team on the field, and the other one is 20 million, the level of competition wanes or decreases.

Many of the franchises are in financial trouble. That's why some of the teams were going to be eliminated. And people blame the team with the most money.. because it's seen as not fair.. so I say.. spread the wealth.

Re: GO YANKS GO YANKS

You make excellent points. And even as a Yankee fan I can agree that it does seem unfair that the Yankees have close to a $200 million dollar payroll and they are going up against teams that have a $50 million payroll. Here's where my problem is though:

1) The Yankees have been beaten the last 3 years in the playoffs by 'small' market teams. So is the playing field even?
2) With the luxury tax the Yankees and other teams with over the top payrolls give money to smaller teams. Yet the owners are not using that money to get better players in.
3) When the talk of payroll comes up the Yankees are always the only ones to get blamed. Even the Red Sox, with their $120 million payroll, said the Yankees have made it unfair for smaller teams. What bothers me about this is shouldn't the Sox and teams with similar payrolls be held as responsible as the Yankees if money drives the game into the ground?
4) While there are many teams in financial trouble there are also teams that the owners just don't feel like spending the money on the players. And there are teams that spend the money on the players but don't put together a championship team. They make poor choices.

I 100% agree that the money these players make today is obscene. I agree it has turned into more of a business then it should be. I would like to see a salary cap to be put on the players, not on a team. Meaning MLB says no player can make more than $10,000,000 a season. What that will do is allow smaller market teams to grab some of the great players. And just maybe the fans wont have to spend $100 to go see a game. I think 10 mil a season is more then enough money for these guys. If a team wants to get 8 great players and have a payroll over 100 mil that's their choice. If a team wants to grab 3 great players and have a payroll around 50 mil, well at least they get some of the more talented players on their team. And they don't have to worry about a player leaving for more money.

Re: GO YANKS GO YANKS

which brings me back to my original point that it really rests on the head of MLB and Selig to do something about this, or baseball will eventually die. It's starting already, where teams like the Expos are facing extinction, it's only a matter of time, and as the salaries get bigger and bigger, the fans will have to spend more and more. Take an average family going to a game, it costs nowadays near $100 , assuming tickets, food and souveneirs. You also notice less games are being shown on broadcast TV. Basically, you HAVE to have cable to follow your team. The Mets only have 50 games on WPIX and the Yankees only have 25 games on WCBS.

Look at football, they have a cap and it's far more popular than baseball.

So, no it's not the ONLY the Yankees fault, it's the fault of MLB and the players. I think MLB has wanted to install a cap and the players' union always come back and says 'if you do that, we'll strike' So, then what's the answer. This luxury tax is BS because teams like the Yankees, the Sox, and yes the Mets can afford any type of tax you want.

We're between a rock and a hard place and eventually it's going to kill the sport -- 1995 was only the beginning.
