So FH last night tells me that he wants to wear a kilt. Not only that, but he wants all the groomsmen to wear kilts. THEN he goes on to say how much he wants to do an irish themed wedding now. He has been researching irish wedding traditions now.
AH what do I do????? What do you guys think of this? Has anyone done this? Or seen it done? I feel like I am going crazy.

I've definitely seen it and I've seen reviews on LIW with weddings like that and they are AMAZING and beautiful!
See if he'd be willing to have everyone change after the ceremony, though, since it could get a little strange trying to comfortably party in traditional get-up.
It's such a wonderful idea -- I hope you'll consider it!

My best friend's husband wanted an irish themed wedding as well because they were both irish but she was totally against it. They compromised and she chose green as the colors and got a band piper (which was really cool). Maybe you guys can compromise and have some irish elements (like the bag pipers) and you can veto some of the other elements (like the kilts)

There was a bride on my fair wedding who had one. They did this bell ringing tradition in the ceremony that was very cute. I think she actually got married on long island too.

Consider a compromise let him wear kilt but keep the Irish theme to a minimum. I would research his tartan before he goes too crazy and see if its readily available or has to be special ordered it could get crazy pricey.

I see you're not getting married until January 2012. I would just totally avoid talking about kilts in front of him. Guys usually obsess over something for a month and then they totally forget about it. Just IMO.

yes he mentioned the bell ringing thing, he wants to do it!!!
we have been talking about it a lot and he's really adamant about it. I am thinking that I won't mind letting them wear kilts if they change into them after the ceremony, that way I can get my tux pictures in and then it will be kind of a funny entrance into the reception. As far as the irish theme, I don't mind that either, he's in a band and he wants to have them come play.
Ha I will keep you updated as this progressed. Thanks for your advice ladies!
