Going on a cruise?

Going on a cruise?

What is it like going on a cruise? Do you have to eat dinner with everyone else? What do you do there??

We are going on a cruise for our HM... We have assigned eating but I think NCL lets you eat when you want. You can do things on the boat or when you get into the port go and do excursions.

do you think its a bad idea to go on a cruise for honeymoon if you haven't been on one before??

I don't think so. FH has never been on a cruise, We are excited because we get to go a few places, we can do things on the boat but we can also stay on the boat and relax. We got a balcony room so that we could relax by ourselves too. Which cruise do you plan on going on??

I believe it depends on the package you get, you can either do assigned eating or not.

I'm not sure I just was looking on BJ's.com to see what kind of deals they had. FH suggested a cruise which I wasn't too keen on at first but now I'm thinking about it...

Re: Going on a cruise?

We booked a 5 day cruise from Miami to Key West and Grand Cayman. I was a little nervous about getting sea sick because I did last time I cruised but I know now to take the medicine before i go on the boat and make sure to get an ocean view room with window.

ooh i love cruises.

you dont HAVE to eat with other people. NCl does open seating where you can sit wherever but other cruiselines like royal caribbean and carnival do not. they usually try to match you up with people around your age. one time we sat with just one other couple, another time we sat at a table of 8. you CAN request to sit alone just you two and they do try to accomodate. and if you dont want to sit in the main dining area they always have a buffet open somewhere or lil specialty places like a deli or pizza place, some have restaurants
it is fun though to sit with others IMO because people come from all over and you can make new friends.
as for getting sick, it doesnt feel like a small boat. for the most part you cannot feel the ship moving but they do have a patch or a bracelet you can wear to prevent getting sick and alot of passengers wear it so you wont feel stupid.

as for what to do on the ship theres plenty!! they are always doing activities. royal has a lot of built in activities like an ice skating rink, rock climbimg wall, in line skating, surfing wave pool thing, basketball courts, ping pong. they have multiple pools and hot tubs, arcades. then the staff does things like contests at the pool...hairy chest contest, games in the pool...dance contests...all sorts of things like that...dodgeball. they do an ice carving display.
at night they have shows...from games like the newlywed game or a huge scavenger hunt to comedy shows or singing/dancing shows...they have bingo...theres a night club. they have SO MUCH!!
they also do things at night like robe parties where everyone comes out on the deck in their robes and they have a buffet..they do party under the stars and thats like a midnight buffet with music and dancing
and then with all of that..you stop off at islands and you can book things to do on the islands themselves.
cruises are so much fun!!

I've only been on one cruise but I absolutely loved it...and this is coming from someone who gets seriously motion sick. I was totally fine except for one night when the sea was kinda rough, but I just went to bed a little early. There are SO many fun things to do, I went for a week and there wasn't a second where I was bored. FH has never been on a cruise but we're going on a 9-night Royal Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon...I can't wait!!

I definitely recommend cruising...if you do get a cruise, make sure to get an ocean-view suite with a balcony!!

yea balcony rooms and suites are amazingggggg

of course we've never stayed in either of those rooms! lol

we always stay in a shoe-box room that way we can cruise a couple of times a year.

haha i do the shoebox room too..honestly i dont think you spend enough time in the room to justify it-jmo

ive only been on rc and carnival, but fh has been on 13 cruises..silly boy..

were doing one for our hm too-i think its a very economical way to see a ton of new places

eta: forgot to mention that rc started my time dining, where you just make a reservation and they give you a table in the main dining room for that number of people-i went on one last month and we did this and it worked out great

i think it depends where you are going. for a short trip, a shoe-box is fine...and for a place that is cold (canada, or alaska), a balcony isnt worth it (IMO).

But when i went on a western carribean 7 day cruise, having a balcony room was well worth it!! you can roll out of bed and sit outside and get some sun...call for room service for breakfast (and not deal with any lines at the buffet or waiting in the restaurant)...and eat your breakfast on your balcony in the sun in your ROBE!! seriosly, love it!!!! also got to hang out there at night before going to sleep

we hate flying. we usually cruise out of ny, but also flew to miami once. We're cruising out of New Jersey in November going to disney for a day and 2 places in the bahamas. (nassau, and the cruiselines private island)
(ive done this itinerary twice before, but never with Royal. and its the cheapest way i can go to disney. that place is effin expensiveee)

Re: Going on a cruise?

crashing...we just went on our first cruise (7 night RC to Eastern Caribbean) and love love loved it!!! I tell everyone to do it now lol. I think it's a great idea for your HM...you will have a great time. It's the best way to travel...you don't have to pack and unpack a million times every time you go to a different port. The food and entertainment are great and there are tons of things to do...the ship we were on had an ice rink, a mini-golf course, rock climbing, a wave rider where you could pretend to surf, a few pools, basketball court, spa, and a really good gym with classes...they have a casino and an art gallery too. I even took scrapbooking classes lol. FM me if you have any questions but I would say definitely do it!

09er here...

I'm going on a 9 day for my HM... I love to cruise. FH has been on 1, I've been on 4. On the ones where we sat with other people we became pretty friendly and actually would go to the shows and excursions with them. I am soo excited! My wedding is in a month and i have to wait until December for my hm I think I'm looking forward to the hm even more than the wedding lol
