going on hubby's medical insurance??

if he submits papers today, how long do you think before it goes into 'effect'???????

his HR said maybe sometime in JULY!!! doesnt that seem FARRRR

i need to cancel mine within a 60 day window (meaning by june 24th)

do you really think it will take his insurance that long??

im scared of being uninsuredddddd

Re: going on hubby's medical insurance??

most places won't start until the first day of the next month so it would probably start on july 1st

IT DEPENDS WHEN HIS ENROLLMENT IS - BUT USUALLY WHEN THERE IS A 'LIFE CHANGE' IT WOULD BE AUTOMATICALLY

when you are uninsured, are you eligible for COBRA?

i thought you can use the insurance almost immediately after he submits the paperwork. I'd contact the health insurance provider directly to find out.

depends on the way his plan works- sometimes its the date of marriage, sometimes 1st of the month after the date of marriage...but usually they're effective date of marriage.

Yeah... and it would likely cover you retroactively back to the date you turn in the papers, or the date of the marriage, I'm not sure which. If they tell you you need to wait for open enrollment period then fight them on it, we went through this problem with my FH's insurance when we registered as domestic partners, it should be pretty much immediate.

so we got married 4/24

if he submits paper work (his enrollment is anytime. no 'window' like with mine), you think its automatic?

i have a 60 day window to either enroll him or cancel mine b/c of this 'life change'

ughhhh

it took a few days for me to go under his policy.. it should be just a form to fill out and a copy of your marriage cert. it shouldnt take that long

usually it would be effective the date of the 'life change' but you have to submit everything within 31 days of that event (your wedding day counts as day 1). He should call his HR deparment to confirm all the details.

whoaa, that seems like a long time.
dh faxed over whatever info they needed the day after the wedding and then i was covered the following week..... it reaaaaaaaaalllllllllly should not take that long. i wouldnt wanna be uninsured for that long either...

Re: going on hubby's medical insurance??

yesterday was my first day on dh plan

he was supposed to start his new job may 3rd butttttt if he did that his medical would not have kicked in till july 1st.

so they had him come in for a few hours on april 30th. so it could take affect june 1st.

does that make sense

Some places have to wait until the 1st of the month and some have to even wait quarterly or something like that. Others can just add the new person on. It all depends on their plan.

Is it cheaper to go on his then just stay on your own plan? I didn't think to do this. Maybe I should go on his?

Re: going on hubby's medical insurance??

Mine went into effect the day he submitted the papers, we didnt get the actual cards for two weeks, but we had an id number that we were able to use incase we needed to go to the dr. before the cards came in. FH had to wait until the next application period to put me in, because his job only has applications like every three months for medical insurance.
